Cavait is building a modern tax and accounting company designed around technology, robust professional judgment, and a better client experience.

Our goal is to create a firm that makes tax and accounting simpler, more responsive, and more accessible for individuals and businesses while maintaining the professional standards clients expect from a trusted accounting organization.

We are now looking for an experienced and entrepreneurial CPA to join CavaIt as our Founding CPA & Head of Tax.

This is a senior leadership and partnership opportunity for someone who wants to help build a professional tax practice from an early stage and play a significant role in its long-term growth.

The OpportunityThe Founding CPA & Head of Tax will work closely with CavaIt’s founder to establish and develop the professional tax side of the business.

You will provide technical leadership, help establish appropriate professional standards and processes, support the development of the tax team, and contribute to the strategic direction of the firm.

This role is suited to a CPA who combines strong tax expertise with an entrepreneurial mindset and is interested in building rather than simply joining an established practice.

Key ResponsibilitiesYou will help lead the development and delivery of CavaIt’s Canadian tax services, including:

- Personal and corporate income tax
- Tax planning for individuals and owner-managed businesses
- Corporate tax compliance and advisory
- GST/HST matters
- CRA correspondence, reviews, audits, and disputes
- Corporate reorganizations and related planning
- Tax research and technical interpretation
- Review and quality control of tax engagements
- Development of professional policies and procedures
- Client engagement and technical consultation
- Recruitment and development of future tax professionals
- Supporting the expansion of CavaIt’s tax and accounting service offerings

You will also help ensure that CavaIt’s professional services are delivered in accordance with applicable CPA standards, regulatory requirements, and professional obligations. Ideal BackgroundWe are looking for a CPA with strong Canadian tax experience and sound professional judgment.

The ideal candidate may currently be:

- A Tax Manager, Senior Manager, Director, or Partner at an accounting firm
- The owner of a boutique CPA or tax practice

- An experienced CPA considering building or joining an entrepreneurial practice

Strong experience with owner-managed businesses and privately held companies would be particularly valuable. Experience in several of the following areas is preferred:
- T1 and T2 taxation
- Corporate tax planning
- Owner-manager compensation
- Corporate reorganizations
- GST/HST
- CRA audits and objections
- Trusts and estates
- Succession planning
- Cross-border taxation
- Tax research and technical review

Completion of CPA Canada’s In-Depth Tax Program, an MTax, TEP designation, or similar advanced tax training would be considered an asset. What We Are Looking ForBeyond technical expertise, we are looking for someone who is:

Entrepreneurial

You are interested in helping build and grow a firm rather than simply occupying a position within one.

Commercially minded

You understand the needs of business owners and can communicate tax matters clearly and practically.

Professionally rigorous

You maintain high standards of technical quality, ethics, and professional judgment.

Client focused

You understand that strong professional relationships are built through trust, responsiveness, and high-quality advice.

Collaborative

You are comfortable working closely with a founder and contributing to decisions across the business.

Growth oriented

You are interested in developing teams, expanding services, and helping create a significant professional organization over time.

Leadership ScopeInitially, this will be a hands-on leadership role.

You will help establish the tax practice, contribute directly to complex engagements, and help define how the professional side of CavaIt operates.

As the business grows, the role is expected to evolve toward broader leadership responsibilities, including:

- Leading tax professionals
- Developing service lines
- Recruiting and mentoring senior talent
- Supporting major client relationships

- Maintaining technical and professional standards
- Contributing to firm strategy
- Helping expand CavaIt across Canada and, over time, into additional markets

CompensationCavaIt is currently at an early stage, and this is not a traditional salaried role at launch. We are looking for an entrepreneurial CPA who is interested in building alongside the founder.

Initial compensation is expected to include an agreed combination of:

- Revenue participation
- Partnership economics
- Long-term equity or ownership participation, where appropriate and permitted
- Future salary as the business reaches defined operating and revenue milestones

The exact structure will be discussed with shortlisted candidates and will reflect experience, responsibilities, commitment, contribution, and applicable professional requirements. Why CavaItThis is an opportunity to help shape a tax and accounting organization from its early stages rather than joining after the major decisions have already been made.

The successful candidate will have meaningful influence over the development of the practice, its professional standards, its team, its service offering, and its long-term direction.

We are looking for someone who wants to help build a significant accounting and tax organization and grow with it over the long term.

QualificationsApplicants should have

- CPA designation
- Good standing with the applicable provincial CPA body
- Strong Canadian tax experience
- Experience working with individuals, businesses, or owner-managed companies
- Strong technical and analytical skills
- Excellent communication and client-management skills
