Role Description The Gallery Assistant role is a contract, on-site position based at Liss Gallery in Toronto, ON. This role supports day-to-day gallery operations, including greeting visitors, answering inquiries, and providing information about exhibitions, artists, and available works.
The Gallery
Assistant helps with gallery administration tasks such as maintaining records, updating inventory lists, assisting with sales processes, and coordinating appointments. Additional responsibilities may include preparing the gallery space for openings and events, supporting art installations and framing services,
and assisting with packing and shipping artwork. The individual in this role works closely with the gallery team to ensure a welcoming setting and a high level of service for artists and clients.
Qualifications
- Strong Communication skills, including transparent verbal and written interaction with visitors, artists, and clients.
- Customer Service experience, with the ability to provide courteous, knowledgeable, and solution-oriented support.
- Familiarity with Gallery operations and Gallery Administration, including basic record-keeping, inventory management, and event support.
- Genuine interest in Art, with the ability to discuss artworks and artists in an informed and engaging manner.
- Organizational and time-management skills, with attention to detail in handling artwork and documentation.
- Comfort with basic computer applications and point-of-sale or CRM systems; experience in retail or hospitality is an asset.
- Ability to work on-site, including standing for extended periods and assisting with safe handling and installation of artwork.
- Previous experience in a gallery, museum, or related art environment is preferred but not required; post-secondary education in art, art history, or a related field is an asset.
