Founded in 2013, Cornice is led by Robyn Black and Jim Trask, who bring more than five decades of combined environmental consulting experience across Western Canada and the western United States.

The OpportunityCornice is growing, and we are looking for an experienced biologist who can contribute confidently across field programs, technical work, and project delivery.
This is a dynamic role requiring both field and desktop capability. Our work changes by project and season, and we are looking for someone comfortable contributing to field assessments, construction environmental monitoring, technical reporting, regulatory support, and coordination with project teams.
You will work independently when appropriate and collaboratively with Cornice professionals, clients, contractors, Indigenous communities, regulators, technical specialists, and other consulting teams.
What You’ll DoYour work may include:
- Leading and supporting terrestrial and aquatic habitat assessments
- Conducting fisheries, wildlife, vegetation, water-quality, and habitat field programs
- Providing construction environmental monitoring and practical mitigation guidance
- Supporting environmental permitting and regulatory compliance
- Interpreting field data and preparing clear, defensible technical documentation
- Supporting habitat restoration and enhancement projects
- Working directly with clients, contractors, regulators,
Indigenous communities, and multidisciplinary project teams
- Managing defined scopes or projects, including schedules, budgets, and deliverables
- Supporting developing professionals through practical guidance, review, and knowledge sharing
What We’re Looking ForWe are less interested in titles than in demonstrated capability. We are looking for someone with enough experience to exercise sound technical judgment, take ownership of their work, recognize when a matter requires escalation, and contribute effectively within experienced project teams.
Essential qualifications include
- Degree or diploma in biology, environmental science, ecology, natural resources, or a directly related discipline
- Minimum of five years of relevant environmental consulting or project experience, primarily in British Columbia and/or Alberta
- Professional designation as an R.P.Bio in British Columbia and/or P.Biol in Alberta, or clear eligibility for registration
- Strong field capability across terrestrial and/or aquatic systems
- Experience with environmental monitoring and regulatory requirements in British Columbia
- Strong technical writing and communication skills
- Ability to work independently, organize competing priorities, and remain accountable to a team
- Valid driver’s licence and willingness to travel within British Columbia for field assignments
Experience with fisheries and fish habitat, wildlife, vegetation, water quality, environmental permitting, construction monitoring, habitat restoration, GIS, or project coordination will strengthen your application.
