**Job Title: Mechanical Installation Technician**
**Job Description**
This role focuses on assembling and installing conveyor systems and a mechanical grid automation structure within a large distribution facility.
You will work in small, safety-focused teams to build and finish the grid, install related mechanical components, and support commissioning and go-live activities.
The position requires confident use of hand and power tools, comfort working at heights and on lifts, and a strong commitment to precision and safe work practices in a heavy-duty construction environment.
**Responsibilities**
Assemble and install multiple conveyor systems and a mechanical grid structure according to engineering specifications and installation plans.
Install and complete all elements of the grid automation system, including grid install, cladding, false bottom totes, grid finishing, peripheral stations, maintenance areas, and charging stations.
Use a variety of hand and power tools safely and effectively to complete mechanical assembly and installation tasks with a high level of accuracy.
Work in small teams to coordinate tasks, share information, and ensure all work is completed safely, efficiently, and to quality standards.
Operate or work alongside operators of scissor lifts and other access equipment to perform installation work at heights as required.
Support commissioning activities and go-live preparation by assisting with final checks, adjustments, and troubleshooting of installed systems.
Follow all site safety procedures, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), safe work practices at heights, and adherence to construction site rules.
Read and interpret measurements, levels, and alignment requirements using tools such as measuring tapes, levels, and squares to ensure precise installation.
Handle and position mechanical components, including conveyors and structural elements, using appropriate lifting and support methods.
Maintain a clean and organized work area, ensuring tools and equipment are stored safely and are in good working order.
Collaborate with supervisors and team members to identify and resolve installation issues, delays, or quality concerns.
Bring and maintain a complete set of required tools, including socket and wrench sets, screwdrivers, hammers, levels, squares, pry bars, adjustable wrenches, measuring tapes, Allen keys, and drifts.
Work flexible hours, including extended shifts and overtime, to meet project timelines and installation milestones.
Participate in required equipment certifications, including scissor lift certification, and comply with requirements for forklift-licensed personnel on the team.
**Essential Skills**
At least 3 years of experience in conveyor installation, construction labour, millwright work, welding, or similar mechanical installation roles.
Strong mechanical aptitude and the ability to assemble and install mechanical systems with precision.
Proven experience using hand and power tools in a construction or industrial environment.
Experience working in heavy-duty or industrial construction environments, including active construction sites.
Comfort and experience working at heights, including on platforms and elevated structures.
Ability to work safely at all times, follow safety procedures, and use appropriate PPE.
Mechanical inclination with exposure to conveyors, assembly work, or similar mechanical systems.
Ability to read and work with imperial measurements using measuring tapes and related tools.
Capability to work collaboratively in small teams and communicate clearly with coworkers and supervisors.
Physical ability to perform manual tasks, including lifting, positioning,
and assembling mechanical components for extended periods.
**Additional Skills & Qualifications**
Experience operating forklifts and aerial work platforms (AWP), such as boom lifts or scissor lifts, is a robust asset.
Formal forklift license is highly valued; at least one in every three workers on the team must hold a valid forklift license.
Willingness and ability to obtain scissor lift certification; all workers must be certified on scissor lifts before starting.
Background in millwrighting, welding, or similar mechanical trades is an advantage.
Experience with basic controls or automation-related mechanical systems is beneficial.
Comfort working on a construction site, including navigating uneven surfaces, noise, and ongoing construction activities.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to delivering high-quality installation work.
Reliable, punctual, and able to adapt to changing schedules and extended hours when required.

**Work Setting**
This position is based on a construction-style site within a new distribution facility, focused on installing a large mechanical grid and conveyor system.
The standard schedule runs from approximately 07:30 to 15:30, Monday to Friday, with the expectation that additional hours or schedule changes may be required.
During peak periods, you may work up to 60 hours per week, typically as five 12-hour shifts or six 10-hour shifts, depending on project needs.
You will work in an industrial environment that may involve noise, dust, and ongoing construction activity, and you may be required to work on platforms and at heights.
Scissor lifts are used regularly, and some team members will operate forklifts as part of the installation process.
Appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn at all times, and strict adherence to safety procedures is mandatory.
You are expected to bring and use your own tools at a minimum standard, including a socket set (7/16" to 3/4"), wrench set (7/16" to 3/4"), screwdriver set, hammer, rubber mallet, 6" torpedo level, square, small pry bar, 10" and 12" adjustable wrenches, imperial measuring tape, Allen key set, and drift, ensuring you are fully equipped to perform mechanical installation tasks efficiently and safely.
**Job Type & Location**
This is a Contract position based out of Cambridge, ON.
**Pay and Benefits**
The pay range for this position is $27.00 - $35.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
