The Government of Alberta (GoA) is advancing the integrated One Finance model to support strong fiscal stewardship, effective financial governance, and consistent financial service delivery across government. Under this approach, a dedicated Senior Financial Officer (SFO) is assigned to each ministry to provide strategic financial leadership aligned with ministry priorities and broader government-wide objectives.

The Ministry of Public Safety and Emergency Services ("PSES") has significant oversight and involvement in the public security and emergency services through its various divisions and operations. The department is responsible for the administration of law enforcement, correctional services, policing and police oversight and public safety. The Ministry supports crime prevention and restorative justice programs, as well as programs and services to support victims of crime including those affected by domestic violence and human trafficking.

The Assistant Deputy

Minister, Financial Services and Senior Financial Officer (ADM-SFO) plays a critical leadership role in ensuring financial accountability across the Department of Public Safety and Emergency Services. This position is responsible for overseeing the ministry’s financial accountability framework and for providing high quality financial leadership and advice across the organization and related public sector agencies.



Reporting to the Deputy Minister and serving as a member of the Executive Team, the ADM-SFO is a principal financial advisor to the Minister, Deputy Minister, Executive Team, and program areas, supporting financial strategy, resource management, and performance in diverse business contexts.

You will champion a shared approach to financial governance and strategy while providing high-quality advice and information to support key government decision-making bodies, particularly Treasury Board and Finance. You will lead core fiscal management activities, including multi-year financial planning, budget oversight, forecasting, reporting, and internal controls. Your background includes significant executive leadership experience, with strengths in financial management and fiscal oversight within a large public - sector organization.

As the ideal candidate, you bring experience providing strategic advice to executive leadership in complex, multi-stakeholder environments, supported by deep expertise in financial systems, internal controls, audit, and government financial requirements. You demonstrate exceptional judgement, strategic and analytical thinking, and the ability to synthesize qualitative and quantitative information, assess risk, establish meaningful financial measures, and align decisions with government priorities. Your solid political, business, and financial acumen will complement a comprehensive understanding of ministry programs and relevant Government of Alberta legislation, policies, regulations, and Treasury Board directives.

A degree in Commerce, Business, Management, Public Administration, or a related field is required. A professional accounting designation is also required. $
