About the Opportunity
Culture Connect Employment Services is recruiting on behalf of an established Alberta commercial construction company. Our client is looking for an experienced Construction Manager to lead its project delivery teams, build its workforce, and help turn leads into successful projects. You'll report to senior leadership and work closely with Project Managers, Project Coordinators, Site Superintendents, trades, clients, consultants, subcontractors and suppliers.
This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who is as comfortable running a site meeting as presenting a proposal to a client.
What You'll Do
Lead the project teams
- Oversee Project Coordinators, Site Superintendents, carpenters and labourers: managing workloads, scheduling work and handling personnel matters
- Meet regularly with coordinators, superintendents and carpenters on schedules, labour requirements, safety concerns and trade issues
- Support Project Coordinators in building and updating project schedules
- Work with PMs and Coordinators on larger projects to review specifications, drawings and schedules so the scope is clearly understood
- Travel to job sites regularly to review progress
- Help all project team members stay organized, compliant and efficient
Build and develop the team
- Monitor staffing across office and field teams so the projects and the business always have the people they need
- Create and manage job postings, and work with recruitment partners
- Schedule and conduct interviews for office and field roles, and make hiring recommendations
- Draft, present and negotiate employment agreements for new team members
- Develop and oversee training plans for recent office project staff
Grow the business
- Work with the Business Development Manager to vet leads,
assign project teams and move opportunities through to proposal
- Meet with customers to define project scope
- Review estimates and drawings for accuracy, and make sure proposals meet customer requirements
- Present proposals to customers and help close deals
Build client and partner relationships
- Build professional, partnership-based relationships with clients, engineers, subcontractors and suppliers
- Attend site meetings with owners, subcontractors and consultants as needed
- Work with management and staff to keep customers satisfied
- Help administer the company's project management software
What You Bring
- Proven experience managing commercial construction projects and leading both office and field teams
- R.S.C., C.E.T., A.E.T., P.M.P., or equivalent experience would be highly beneficial.
- Construction Safety Training System (CSTS), WHMIS/GHS, Leadership for Safety Excellence, Principles of Health & Safety Management, and Legislative Awareness.
- Ability to read and assess drawings, specifications, schedules and estimates
- Strong leadership, interpersonal and communication skills, with confidence in front of clients
- Hiring and people-management experience
- Valid driver's licence and the ability to travel to job sites regularly
