Job Summary

We are seeking a caring, reliable, and experienced Disability Support Worker to provide one-on-one support to an active teenager with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Support will take place in the family home, throughout the community, and in other settings as required. The position is located in the Bathurst & Hwy 7 area.

The successful candidate will help the client participate in daily activities, develop and maintain independence, access community activities, and build confidence in a safe and supportive environment.

We are looking for someone with several years of hands-on experience in a supervisory, management, or training capacity supporting individuals with autism and challenging or aggressive behaviours. A person-centred approach, excellent judgment, patience, strong interpersonal abilities, and a genuine commitment to supporting the individual's quality of life are essential.

This position is not suitable for applicants whose professional experience is primarily limited to supporting seniors. Applicants must be local.

Key Responsibilities

- Provide assistance with daily routines, personal care, household activities, and other activities of daily living.
- Accompany and support the client during community outings, recreational activities, and social opportunities.
- Observe, track, and document changes in the client's needs, behaviour, and overall progress.
- Follow individualized support and care plans established in conjunction with healthcare professionals.
- Encourage the client to participate in tasks and activities independently whenever appropriate.




- Maintain a safe, orderly, and supportive environment.
- Communicate clearly and consistently with the client, family members, and other members of the support team.
- Offer companionship, encouragement, and emotional support while helping the client develop confidence and well-being.

Required Qualifications & Experience
- Previous experience supporting teens or young adults with disabilities in a supervisory, management, or training role, OR experience working in a complex special needs classroom.
- Experience working within a school board, group home, day treatment program, therapy centre, or comparable environment.
- Demonstrated ability to work compassionately and effectively with individuals who have autism and challenging or aggressive behaviours.
- Solid interpersonal, communication, and leadership abilities.
- Patience, empathy, sound judgment, and the ability to establish a trusting relationship with the client.
- Ability to accurately follow individualized care plans while responding appropriately to changing circumstances and needs.
- Knowledge of health and safety practices relevant to disability support.
- CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention)



certification or equivalent training.
- Valid driver's licence, appropriate insurance, and personal vehicle with seating for at least 7 passengers, available for transportation during community activities.
- Comfortable and physically able to participate in activities such as swimming, biking, trampoline use, and extended walks.
- Vulnerable Sector Check/Clearance.

Additional Skills & Experience Considered an Asset Experience or training in any of the following would be beneficial:
- Anaphylaxis and allergy management
- Alternative and augmentative communication devices
- American Sign language (ASL)
- CPR and First Aid

Who We Are Looking For This opportunity is well suited to someone who enjoys working directly with youth, has substantial experience supporting individuals with autism and complex behaviours, and wants to make a meaningful difference through consistent, compassionate, skill-focused support.

Pay: $25.00-$35.00 per hour

Expected hours: 8.0 – 16.0 per week
