Electrical Engineer – Protection & Control

Location: Markham, Ontario, Canada

Working Model: Remote+25% travel

Position Summary The Electrical Engineer IV will execute Protection and Control Engineering and Consulting services for transmission, distribution, and industrial power systems across the US and Canada. The role involves designing, programming, testing, and commissioning protection and control applications for power system and substation automation projects.

Key Responsibilities

- Design and deliver complex protection solutions for generation, transmission, distribution, and industrial systems.
- Support microgrid solutions, including power-flow optimization and dispatching applications.
- Perform power system studies including short circuit, load flow, ground grid, lightning protection, insulation coordination, arc flash, and protective device coordination.
- Develop relay setting files, protection and control logic, and communication settings for GE and third-party protective relays.
- Test Protection and Control solutions in-house and at customer sites.
- Model and perform power system simulations using RTDS or equivalent tools.
- Develop Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) plans and support customer-witnessed testing.
- Plan and support Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) and commissioning activities.
- Support automation and software tool development to improve engineering processes.




- Participate in technical discussions with project managers, customers, and engineering teams.
- Prepare technical reports, project documentation, Statements of Work (SOW), and engineering estimates.

Required Qualifications & Skills

- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical and Computer Engineering, with specialization in Power Systems.
- 7+ years of experience in electrical power system design, studies, and analysis.
- Strong knowledge of steady-state and transient power system analysis, fault studies, protection theory, and symmetrical components.
- · Experience with power system software/tools such as Mathcad, MATLAB, ASPEN, CAPE, SKM, CDEGS, WinIGS, or ETAP.
- Working knowledge of substation communication protocols including IEC 61850, DNP, and Modbus.
- Experience with system commissioning and testing; Doble, Omicron, or similar test equipment is preferred.
- Solid technical report writing skills and proficiency in MS Word and Excel.
- Ability to estimate engineering effort and support customer proposals and SOW development.
- Strong technical communication, presentation, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work effectively with engineering teams and customers.
- Professional, ethical, customer-focused approach with strong teamwork and learning ability
