Role Description This full-time remote Family Lawyer role involves managing a caseload of family law matters from initial consultation through resolution.
Responsibilities include advising clients on separation, divorce, parenting arrangements, support issues, and property division, and preparing legal documents such as pleadings, affidavits, separation agreements, and court materials.
The Family
Lawyer will participate in negotiations, mediations, and collaborative family law processes, and will appear before the Family Court when necessary. Day-to-day tasks also include legal research, drafting correspondence, communicating regularly with clients and opposing counsel, and maintaining accurate, timely file management.
The role requires strong client advocacy, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently in a remote environment while collaborating effectively with colleagues.
Qualifications
- Licensed lawyer in good standing with the relevant provincial law society, with a focus on or strong interest in family law.
- Experience or training in family law matters such as parenting, support, and property division, including negotiation and dispute resolution.
- Strong legal research, analytical, and drafting skills for agreements, court documents, and client communications.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex legal concepts in clear, accessible language.
- Demonstrated ability to manage files independently, prioritize tasks effectively, and meet deadlines in a remote setting.
- Comfort working with digital tools and case management systems in a paper-light or paperless environment.
- Professional, empathetic approach to client service, including sound judgment, discretion, and respect for diverse backgrounds.
- Experience with collaborative family law, mediation, or alternative dispute resolution is an asset.
- Relevant legal education (e.g., JD or LLB) and prior practice experience in family law or related areas preferred.
