JOB SUMMARY
Bearspaw First Nation is seeking a dependable and hardworking Maintenance & General Worker to support the maintenance and upkeep of community facilities, buildings, grounds, and infrastructure. The successful candidate will perform a variety of maintenance, repair, and general labour duties to ensure community assets remain safe, clean, and operational. Preference may be given to qualified Bearspaw members.
The Maintenance & General Worker is responsible for performing routine maintenance, preventative inspections, repairs, groundskeeping, and general labour activities throughout the community. The successful candidate must be reliable, adaptable, and capable of working independently or as part of a team. This position plays an important role in maintaining community facilities and supporting a safe and welcoming environment for community members.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform routine maintenance and repairs on community buildings and facilities
- Complete basic carpentry, painting, drywall, plumbing, and minor electrical repairs
- Conduct preventative maintenance inspections and report deficiencies
- Perform grounds maintenance including lawn care, weed control, landscaping, and garbage removal
- Assist with snow removal, sanding, and ice control during winter months
- Operate and maintain hand tools, power tools, and maintenance equipment safely
- Assist with moving furniture, supplies, and equipment as required
- Load, unload, and transport materials and supplies
- Assist with facility set-up and tear-down for community events and meetings
- Respond to maintenance requests and work orders in a timely manner
- Maintain maintenance records and daily activity logs as required
- Report safety hazards, damages, and repair requirements to supervisors
- Follow all workplace safety procedures, policies, and departmental protocols
- Maintain professionalism and respectful interactions with community members and staff
- Perform other related duties as assigned by management
EDUCATION, SKILLS, AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent work experience considered an asset
- Minimum one (1) year of maintenance, construction, custodial, or general labour experience preferred
- Basic knowledge of building maintenance, carpentry, plumbing, and repair techniques
- Experience operating maintenance equipment and power tools
- Valid WHMIS certification considered an asset
- Occupational First Aid certification considered an asset
- Valid Class 5 Driver's License required
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physically demanding work
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
- Reliable, dependable, and self-motivated
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Solid communication and interpersonal skills
- Understanding of First Nations culture, traditions, and community values considered an asset
- Criminal Record Check required
EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS:
- Successful completion of Criminal Record Check
- Compliance with all Bearspaw First Nation policies, procedures, and safety protocols
- Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Flexibility to work occasional evenings, weekends, and emergency call-outs as required
- Maintain confidentiality and professional conduct at all times
