Overview
Join our dynamic team as Marine Rescue / Safety Personnel and become a vital part of ensuring safety, swift response, and effective emergency management on infrastructure projects.
This position offers an excellent opportunity to lead rescue operations, uphold safety standards, and make a tangible difference in workplace environments.
Your proactive leadership and quick decision-making will help safeguard lives and promote a secure aquatic environment for all visitors and team members. You will be operating a small vessel docked in a channel near the work site. Travel between the mooring location and the site requires a 300 m navigation on Lake Ontario.
Must be able to pass a Reliability Status background check.
End of October to first week of December 2026
Duties
- Lead rescue operations during emergencies, including water rescues, first aid, and evacuation procedures.
- Monitor near-water activities to identify potential safety hazards or risky behaviours.
- Conduct regular safety inspections of boats, rescue equipment, and designated rescue zones to ensure compliance with safety protocols.
- Respond promptly to emergencies or incidents on or near the water or on the shoreline, coordinating with emergency services as needed.
- Maintain detailed incident reports, vessel rescue logs,
and safety documentation for review and continuous improvement.
- Lead safety drills and training sessions to prepare team members and visitors for emergency situations.
Skills
- Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to coordinate teams effectively during high-pressure situations.
- Robust background in marine environments, including first aid, CPR, and water rescue techniques.
- Excellent communication skills to clearly convey safety instructions and coordinate with emergency responders.
- Ability to remain calm, focused, and decisive in stressful or unpredictable scenarios.
- Physical fitness and swimming proficiency necessary for rescue operations in challenging conditions.
- Knowledge of marine safety regulations, equipment maintenance, and risk assessment practices.
- Water rescue training (NLS Waterfront, NFPA water rescue), a boat operation licence (SVOP preferred) and experience required. Standard First Aid, SDV-BS or MED A3, Safety in 4-Step and WHMIS required.
Pay: $35.00-$52.00 per hour Expected hours: 40.0 per week
