About Medically Modern

Medically Modern helps patients get the latest diabetes technology, including Continuous Glucose Monitors like FreeStyle Libre and Dexcom, and insurance-covered insulin pumps and infusion sets.

We work with patients across the US and help them get their diabetes supplies covered by insurance, whether they have Medicare, Medicaid, or a commercial plan.

Our mission is to make advanced diabetes technology easier to get for every patient. We handle every step: enrollment, insurance verification, getting prescriptions and records from doctors, and supporting patients after their supplies arrive.

We're a small, fast-growing team. Everyone here owns real work, and good ideas get put into practice quickly.

About the Role

We're looking for a Patient Outreach Specialist who is a self starter, thinks like an owner, and loves advocating for patients. You get energized by helping people find the best option for their care, confidently guiding them to a yes, and getting them across the finish line.

You'll be the voice of Medically Modern for patients getting their diabetes supplies. You'll call patients, walk them through what we need to get their insurance to cover their supplies, chase down prescriptions and records from doctors' offices, and explain coverage in a way that makes sense. Many patients are stressed, confused, or frustrated by the time they reach us. You'll be the person who makes it feel easy.

This isn't a read-from-a-script job. We're building our processes as we grow, so we want someone who spots what's broken, suggests a better way, and runs with it without waiting to be told. If you like figuring things out, taking ownership of your work, and seeing the impact you have on real people, you'll fit in well here.

Healthcare experience is a plus but not required. We'll teach you the insurance and diabetes side. What we can't teach is empathy, hustle, and follow-through.

Responsibilities

Patient outreach

- Make a high volume of outbound calls, texts, and emails to patients to collect insurance, demographic, and other required information.
- Guide patients through enrollment, insurance verification, documentation, and delivery, with warmth and patience.
- Explain insurance benefits, deductibles, copays, coinsurance, and what the patient will owe in plain, reassuring language.
- Answer basic questions about CGMs, insulin pumps, order status, and delivery. Escalate clinical, billing, or complex insurance questions to the right teammate.
- Keep patients updated so no one is left wondering where their order stands.

Welcome calls

- Own the welcome call for new patients once their coverage is confirmed. This is often the patient's first real conversation with Medically Modern, and you set the tone.
- Confirm the order, delivery details, and what supplies the patient will receive.
- Walk patients through their out-of-pocket cost with a clear, specific estimate, and handle cost questions or hesitation with confidence and care.
- Get first-time CGM and insulin pump patients excited and ready for their new device, and set expectations for setup and next steps.
- Spot when a patient could benefit from other supplies we offer, like a CGM for a patient ordering pump supplies, and help them understand their options.
- Build trust so patients stay with us for refills and recommend us to others.

Ownership and building

- Own your caseload from first call to delivery. Nothing falls through the cracks.
- Review patient information for accuracy and catch problems before they cause delays.
- Document every patient,

provider, and insurance interaction in our systems.
- Flag what's slowing patients down and propose fixes to our scripts, workflows, and tools.

What We're Looking For

- A self starter who takes initiative and doesn't need to be micromanaged.
- An entrepreneurial mindset: you like solving problems, improving how things work, and owning outcomes.
- Real empathy on the phone. You stay calm, kind, and clear with patients who are frustrated or confused.
- Confidence making lots of outbound calls, and the persistence to keep following up.
- Strong organization and attention to detail across many cases at once.
- Clear, qualified writing and speaking in English.
- Comfort working independently and staying accountable in a remote setting.
- Availability Monday to Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time.
- Good judgment with sensitive patient information and confidentiality.

Nice to Have

- Startup or small company experience.
- Experience in healthcare, a pharmacy, a medical office, durable medical equipment, or health insurance.
- Familiarity with US health insurance (Medicare, Medicaid, commercial plans), benefits checks, or prior authorizations.
- Knowledge of diabetes or diabetes technology like CGMs and insulin pumps.
- Experience in a call center, customer success, sales, or another phone-heavy role.

What Success Looks Like

- Patients feel informed, supported, and cared for from their first call to delivery.
- Insurance and patient information is collected accurately and quickly.
- Prescriptions and records come in fast because your follow-up is consistent and professional.
- Problems get caught before they delay a patient's supplies.
- You've improved at least one of our processes because you saw a better way and made it happen.
- Patients leave the call feeling like someone is in their corner.
