Red Oak Villa is currently seeking a compassionate, dedicated, and experienced Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) to join our healthcare team on a permanent full-time basis.

Compensation

CA$28.00 per hour, plus group benefits, group RRSP, paid sick time, and vacation, based on experience and qualifications.

In the role of Wellness Nurse, the Registered Practical Nurse is responsible for supporting the health, safety, and overall wellbeing of residents through clinical oversight, medication administration, care planning, and collaboration with the Resident Services team. The successful candidate will play an important role in ensuring residents receive high quality care while maintaining their dignity, independence, and quality of life.

Qualifications

· Current Certificate of Competence and active registration in good standing as a Registered Practical Nurse with the College of Nurses of Ontario.

· Knowledge of and ability to apply the Practice Standards and professional guidelines established by the College of Nurses of Ontario.

· Demonstrated commitment to maintaining current knowledge of nursing practices, regulatory requirements, and professional standards.

· Familiarity with the standards and requirements outlined in the Retirement Homes Act, 2010 and the oversight role of the Retirement Homes Regulatory Authority.

· Empathy for and understanding of the needs of elderly residents and individuals with physical or cognitive challenges.

· Ability to interact effectively with residents, families, and staff with patience, professionalism, and respect for confidentiality.

· Demonstrated initiative, sound judgement, and leadership abilities.

· Ability to work independently while also functioning effectively as part of an interdisciplinary team.

· Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.

· Strong verbal and written communication skills and effective public relations skills.

· Demonstrated reliability and satisfactory attendance history.

· Satisfactory Criminal Record Check including Vulnerable Sector Screening completed within six months prior to employment start date.

· Proof of TB screening in accordance with Public Health requirements.

· Ability to meet the occupational health requirements of the role, including required immunizations and screenings.

· Bilingualism in English and French is considered an asset. Preference may be given to candidates who are bilingual.

· Candidates must be legally entitled to work in Canada without restrictions and be available to work variable shifts including days, evenings,



and weekends as required.

Key Responsibilities

· Monitor and support the overall physical, emotional, and psychological wellbeing of residents.

· Respond to resident health concerns and emergency calls and ensure appropriate medical care is provided when required.

· Complete post fall assessments and ensure appropriate documentation and follow up care planning.

· Facilitate appropriate communication with physicians, pharmacies, hospitals, and other healthcare providers involved in resident care.

· Monitor new residents during the transition period following move in and support their adjustment to the residence.

· Maintain positive and professional relationships with residents and their families while supporting resident independence and dignity.

· Create, review, and update care plans for residents prior to move in and at least every six months thereafter, ensuring residents or their representatives review and sign the care plan as appropriate.

· Ensure all resident documentation is maintained in accordance with nursing documentation standards and organizational policies.

· Review the 24 hour shift report daily and follow up on any incidents, concerns, or changes in resident status.

· Provide clear and concise communication to oncoming staff at the completion of each shift.

· Ensure resident files and documentation are complete, accurate, and maintained in accordance with privacy and confidentiality requirements.

· Participate in the admission process for new residents including initial assessments, vital signs, and weight documentation.

· Ensure all required information is obtained for resident records and care planning.

· Organize resident photographs and required information for resident charts, emergency binders, medication administration records, and fire safety documentation.

· Administer medications and treatments in accordance with organizational policies and the professional standards of the College of Nurses of Ontario.

· Maintain knowledge of residents enrolled in the medication administration program and the medications they receive.

· Coordinate and verify medication administration records, physician orders, and pharmacy supplied medications to ensure the accuracy of the medication administration process.

· Order medications as required and ensure medication supplies are maintained.

· Conduct regular medication and treatment administration audits with Resident Services Staff.

· Provide guidance and direction to Resident Services Staff regarding care interventions, treatments,



and resident care requirements within their scope as unregulated care providers.

· Ensure incident reports are completed appropriately and follow up on all reported incidents.

· Monitor resident services delivery and identify opportunities to improve quality of care and resident satisfaction.

· Follow established organizational policies and procedures when a resident passes away, including required documentation and communication protocols for both expected and unexpected deaths.

Pre-Employment Requirements In accordance with the Retirement Homes Act and site policy, employment is conditional upon satisfactory completion of:

- Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening
- Required health clearances as per public health and site policy
- Proof of eligibility to work in Canada

Schedule Must be available to work various shifts, including days, evenings, and weekends. Schedules are based on operational requirements and applicable legislation.
