Ribbon Fiber Splicing Technicians – Independent Contractors

Prince George, British Columbia

Field Tech Solutions (FTS) is looking for 10–15 experienced Ribbon Fiber Splicing Technicians / Independent Contractors for a major telecommunications project in Prince George, BC.

This is a 3–4 month project operating 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, with two 12-hour shifts.

Project Details

- Position: Ribbon Fiber Splicing Technician – Independent Contractor
- Location: Prince George, BC
- Duration: Approximately 3–4 months

- Schedule: 24/7 operations
- Shifts: 2 × 12-hour shifts
- Crew Size: 10–15 technicians
- Travel: Flights from Toronto to Prince George provided

- Accommodation: Hotel provided

- Meals: Meal allowance provided

Responsibilities
- Perform ribbon fiber fusion splicing
- Prepare, splice, organize and secure fiber cables
- Perform fiber testing, troubleshooting and verification
- Read and follow fiber optic drawings, plans and splice documentation
- Maintain accurate splice records and test results
- Work safely and efficiently during 12-hour shifts
- Coordinate with project supervisors and other technicians
- Maintain project quality and production requirements

Independent Contractor Requirements Applicants must be able to operate as a legitimate independent contractor/business and provide:
- Registered business in Canada

- Valid GST/HST registration number
- Valid WSIB account/coverage, where applicable
- Valid Commercial General Liability (CGL) insurance
- Proof of insurance upon request
- Own vehicle and valid driver's licence




- Own standard fiber-splicing hand tools and equipment
- Experience operating fusion splicers and fiber testing equipment
- Ability to provide required PPE
- Ability to provide invoices for completed work
- Ability to work independently and meet project production requirements
- Ability to commit to the full 3–4 month project
- Willingness to work 12-hour shifts, including nights, weekends and holidays as required

Preferred Experience
- Extensive Ribbon Fiber Splicing experience
- Experience on large-scale telecom/fiber projects
- Experience with high-fiber-count cables
- Experience with OTDR and fiber testing
- Experience with major fiber splicing platforms and equipment
- Previous experience working on 24/7 projects
