Role Description

This full-time remote Study Engineer – Power Systems role focuses on conducting technical analyses, simulations, and studies related to electrical power systems. The Study Engineer will perform power flow, short-circuit, contingency, transfer, and stability studies, including transient, small-signal, voltage, and frequency stability assessments.

Daily responsibilities include developing and validating power system models, conducting technical simulations using industry-standard software, preparing detailed study reports, documenting assumptions and methodologies, and communicating findings clearly to clients and project stakeholders.

The role will also involve supporting generation and renewable resource modeling, transmission planning, system upgrade and mitigation strategies, grid integration assessments, regulatory compliance studies, and the development and improvement of power system study methodologies.

The Study Engineer will collaborate with experienced technical teams, contribute to proposal and RFP development, support software development and testing activities, and remain current with applicable reliability standards, industry practices, and emerging power system technologies.

Qualifications

- Candidates should possess strong knowledge of Power Systems and Electrical Engineering , including generation, transmission, distribution, grid operations, and system integration.
- Candidates should possess practical experience with power system studies , including power flow, short-circuit, contingency, transfer, voltage stability, transient stability, small-signal stability, and frequency stability analysis.
- Candidates should possess a strong foundation in power system modeling, simulation techniques,



and analytical methods .
- Candidates should possess experience with industry-standard power system simulation tools such as PSS®E, DSATools, PSCAD, DIgSILENT, PowerWorld, or similar platforms .
- Experience with generator, renewable resource, load, transmission, transformer, protection, and control-system modeling is highly desirable.
- Candidates should have strong analytical and problem-solving skills and the ability to apply engineering principles to complex power system challenges.
- A Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Electrical Engineering , preferably with a focus on Power Systems, is required depending on experience level.
- Senior-level candidates should have significant experience in power system planning, operational studies, power system research, software development, and/or technical customer support.
- Candidates should be registered, or eligible for registration, as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EGBC) where applicable.
- Current graduates with a strong interest in power system analysis and simulation and eligibility for immediate EIT registration are encouraged to apply.
- Experience with programming languages such as Python, MATLAB, C, or C++ is considered an asset.
- Familiarity with NERC reliability standards and compliance studies , including TPL, FAC, PRC, MOD, and CIP, is an asset.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present technical results to clients and diverse stakeholders.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a remote, distributed team environment while managing multiple assignments and deadlines.
- Strong commitment to safety, quality, technical accuracy, and professional standards.
