Burrard Animal Hospital + Emergency is a fast-growing, AAHA-accredited 24-hour general and emergency service hospital in Vancouver. We are a fully paperless practice equipped with advanced diagnostic technology, including a comprehensive in-house lab, ultrasound, endoscopy, digital X-ray, CT scan, and Cornerstone software.
Our mission is to provide 24-hour veterinary care and comfort to pets through advanced diagnostics, routine services, and emergency care.
The Opportunity
We are seeking a compassionate, reliable, and motivated Veterinary Assistant to join our dynamic emergency and general practice team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is passionate about animal care and enjoys working in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
As a Veterinary Assistant, you will work closely with veterinarians, RVTs, and the hospital support team to provide excellent patient care and help ensure the hospital runs smoothly.
In this role, you will:
- Assist veterinarians and RVTs with patient care, treatments, and procedures
- Safely handle and restrain patients as directed by the veterinary team
- Provide compassionate care and comfort to hospitalized and boarding patients
- Monitor patients and report changes or concerns to the veterinary team
- Assist with preparing patients, treatment areas, and equipment for procedures
- Help with basic patient care, including feeding, walking, cleaning, and maintaining comfortable housing
- Assist with collecting and preparing samples as directed by the veterinary team
- Maintain clean, organized, and sanitary treatment, examination, and kennel areas
- Clean, disinfect, and restock equipment and treatment areas
- Assist with laundry, dishes, waste management, and general hospital maintenance
- Help maintain adequate inventory and supplies throughout the hospital
- Support the reception team and client care as needed
- Assist with patient admissions, discharges, and transfers as directed
- Work collaboratively with the entire veterinary team to ensure excellent patient care
- Follow hospital protocols for safety, infection control, and patient handling
- Maintain a calm and professional approach in a busy emergency environment

What You Will Bring
- Previous experience working with animals is an asset
- Previous veterinary hospital experience is an asset but not required
- A genuine passion for animal care and welfare
- Comfortable handling and working around dogs, cats, and other companion animals

- Ability to follow instructions and hospital protocols carefully
- Strong attention to detail and ability to stay organized in a busy environment
