Volunteer Coordinator and Digital Media Strategist The Volunteer Coordinator leads MCC Alberta's Volunteer Strategy at the thrift shop, including recruitment and orientation of new Thrift volunteers, and ongoing support, coaching, and training for volunteers in their various roles. This salaried full-time position will interact directly with 80 + volunteers, leading the efforts of volunteer communication and recognition. This leadership role is a balance of administrative and people work.

The Volunteer

Coordinator will have daily interactions with staff, volunteers, customers, and donors, as well as time at the computer to plan, recruit and process applications, and maintain volunteer records in the database. The digital media strategist works as part of the MCC Alberta Thrift Marketing team. This role is responsible for the creation of digital media for the four Thrift Shops in AB (Taber, Lethbridge, Calgary, Edmonton).

This includes but is not limited to videography, editing, delivering files in a format applicable for various mediums. MCC is a charitable organization that partners with churches and community organizations worldwide to walk with people who are disadvantaged. MCC supports activities that provide emergency assistance, reduce poverty, and promote healthy communities, sustainable living and alternatives to violence.

Proven success in volunteer management - recruiting, leading, training, evaluation, appreciation.

Experience with volunteer management software e.g. The ability to engage volunteers in creating a positive, customer centric, welcoming atmosphere within the shop, balancing patience, creativity, humour, and energy. Digital media Create Shop specific social media content according to the local, and provincial campaigns and priorities Post all Shop social media videos, reels and ads per the direction of the Shop Leadership, per MCC Brand and Marketing guidelines Serve as a brand advocate and ambassador for MCC mission and values in every interaction with customers and donors, being proactive in promoting positive public, staff, and volunteer relations Manage the life cycle of volunteers - recruitment, orientation, training, check-ins, recognition, care, exit interviews.

Regularly communicate with volunteers through conversation, in-shop communication, emails, and newsletters to keep them informed of policies, procedures, and events. In partnership with the General Manager, actively network with schools, churches, community and local organizations to promote volunteerism and build foundational relationships for the thrift shop. Maintain up to date and accurate volunteer records in the database.

Participate in network opportunities with other Volunteer Coordinators, led by the Prairie MCC Volunteer Manager. Respond to customer, donor, and volunteer questions or concerns as needed Proactively support volunteers with reminders of proper lifting techniques, and the provision of tools to help with heavy lifting.
