About the Role
Our client is looking for an attentive and motivated Crop Scout / Agronomy Assistant to support their agronomy team in the Kimberley region. In this vital role, you will conduct detailed field assessments to monitor crop health, identify pests, diseases, and nutrient deficiencies, and assist agronomists in data collection. Your observations and reports will be crucial for developing effective crop management strategies. Key Responsibilities
- Conduct regular field scouting to identify and report on the presence of pests, diseases, weeds, and nutrient deficiencies in crops.
- Collect data on crop growth stages, yield potential, and environmental conditions.
- Assist agronomists with the implementation of crop management plans, including pesticide and fertilizer applications.
- Calibrate and operate field scouting equipment,
including GPS devices and moisture meters. - Maintain accurate and organized field records and contribute to scouting reports.
- Identify and report any unusual crop conditions or potential problems to the lead agronomist promptly.
Requirements
- A diploma or degree in Agriculture, Agronomy, Horticulture, or a related science field.
- Previous experience in agricultural field work, crop scouting, or as an agronomy assistant is beneficial.
- Basic knowledge of common South African crops, pests, and diseases.
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and cover significant ground on foot.
- Strong observational skills and attention to detail for fieldwork around Kimberley .
- Good communication and record-keeping abilities.
