Legal Counsel, Personal & Business Banking – BMO

Position: Legal Counsel for Personal & Business Banking division at BMO, located in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.

Key Eligibility Criteria

- Law degree (LLB or JD) and license to practice in relevant jurisdiction.
- Less than 7 years of legal practice or equivalent education/experience.
- Experience in private practice, in‑house counsel or regulatory body preferred.
- Fluency in French and English required.

Responsibilities & Scope of Work





- Provide legal and regulatory advice on products, initiatives, strategies, policies and developments.
- Negotiate and influence to achieve business objectives while minimizing legal risk.
- Deliver legal advice, instruct external counsel and ensure compliance with internal policies.
- Act as subject‑matter expert on relevant laws, regulations and policies.
- Identify and mitigate risks, implement improvements and build stakeholder relationships.

Stipend, Compensation & Mode

Salary range: $80,000.00 – $175,000.00 (Salaried). Benefits include health insurance, tuition reimbursement, accident and life insurance, retirement savings plans and potential performance‑based incentives.
