The Faculty of Kinesiology is currently seeking a Full-time Regular Facility Operator .

The Operations

Unit is responsible for maintaining and operating a 450 000 square foot multi-functional recreational facility plus outdoor playing fields, ensuring seamless operations for diverse user groups. Open 362 days a year, the Faculty of Kinesiology facilities serve approximately 2,000,000 visitors annually. The state-of-the-art kinesiology facilities include a diverse range of sports and athletic spaces, teaching and learning spaces, research spaces, clinical space, as well as offices and boardrooms.

This AUPE position reports to the Director, Facilities and Operations and works closely with the Facilities Specialist and Facility Operator Team to ensure smooth facility operations and responsive client services. This position includes a combination of scheduled work such as event setup for athletic and recreational activities and monitoring of building systems as well as real-time response to client needs and emergent maintenance issues. As such, the incumbent must be flexible to shift priorities and respond to tasks efficiently, effectively, and safely.

This position is a part of the AUPE Collective Agreement, and works 37.5 hours per week,5 days a week shift, Thursday to Monday. Building hours for the Faculty of Kinesiology shift to accommodate business operations needs, and could range from 5:30am -11:00pm, 7 days per week. The schedule for this position may shift to accommodate business operations needs but will generally be a consistent 7.5 hours of work per day across 5 consecutive days.

Occasionally, overtime work or non-standard work hours will be required.

Facility

Maintenance and Operations Ensures that maintenance projects are completed in a timely and effective manner. Operates specialized power equipment including electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic equipment; Operates cleaning equipment, such as sweepers, to maintain cleanliness of outdoor fields and indoor spaces. Perform seasonal cleaning and maintenance tasks, including artificial turf cleaning.





Conduct routine inspections to identify and address maintenance concerns for outdoor and indoor facilities. Provides set up and take down requirements for events hosted in the Kinesiology facilities. Collaborate with event organizers to ensure smooth operations, efficiently and professionally address any operations needs and facility concern requests.

Provide positive experience for clients using the facilities. Manage and troubleshoot conflict with facility users in a professional and effective manner. Ensure that the facilities and equipment are maintained on a regular basis to provide a safe environment for the staff and clients.

Monitor and uphold security protocols for the facility, safeguarding people and property. Communicate with facility users if unsafe activities are observed. Provide guidance and mentorship for task execution and processes to part-time staff.

Work collaboratively with other facility operators, trades, and contractors to ensure the smooth operation of the facility. Stay informed about industry best practices and recommend improvements to enhance facility operations. A high school diploma is required.

A recreational facility management certificate, certification in a trade, or other related certification is preferred. Work experience in construction or industrial environments would be beneficial. A combination of education and work experience may be considered.

This may include lifting carrying and moving objects weighing up to 50 lbs, extended periods of walking, bending, kneeling, or pushing/pulling objects, and working in various environmental conditions including outdoor weather.

Experience working safely and comfortably at various heights using manlift, scaffolding and ladder, and with power tools and other machinery is preferred.
