Optimal Engineering Inc. is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Financial Controller to lead the company’s financial reporting, accounting operations, budgeting, financial controls, and compliance functions.

The Financial Controller will be responsible for maintaining the integrity and accuracy of the company’s financial records while providing timely financial information and analysis to support strategic business decisions. The ideal candidate will combine strong technical accounting expertise with excellent analytical, organizational, and leadership skills.

This position will play a key role in strengthening financial processes, improving operational efficiency, managing cash flow, and ensuring compliance with applicable accounting standards, tax requirements, and company policies.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Management & Reporting

Oversee the company’s day-to-day accounting and finance operations.

Manage the preparation of accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.

Ensure financial statements are prepared in accordance with applicable accounting standards and company policies.

Analyze financial results, identify trends and variances, and provide actionable recommendations to management.

Develop and maintain financial reporting packages, dashboards, and key performance indicators.

Provide management with accurate financial information to support business planning and decision-making.

Accounting Operations

Oversee general ledger activities, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll accounting, fixed assets, and bank reconciliations.

Establish and maintain effective accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.

Ensure accurate recording and classification of revenues, expenses, assets, liabilities, and capital expenditures.

Review account reconciliations and investigate discrepancies.

Monitor the company’s cash position and working capital requirements.

Ensure timely completion of month-end and year-end close processes.

Budgeting & Financial Planning

Lead the annual budgeting and forecasting process in collaboration with department managers and senior leadership.





Monitor actual performance against budgets and forecasts.

Prepare variance analyses and recommend corrective actions where necessary.

Assist senior management with financial modeling, business planning, and long-term financial strategy.

Evaluate the financial impact of proposed projects, investments, contracts, and operational initiatives.

Project & Engineering Financial Oversight

Monitor the financial performance of engineering projects and contracts.

Review project costs, revenue recognition, margins, work-in-progress, and billing.

Partner with project managers to identify cost overruns, margin risks, and financial opportunities.

Ensure project financial data is accurate, complete, and properly reflected in the company’s accounting records.

Support contract reviews and financial analysis of customer and vendor agreements.

Compliance, Audit & Tax

Coordinate annual audits and serve as the primary finance contact for external auditors and accounting advisors.

Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local financial and tax regulations.

Support tax preparation and compliance activities, including coordination with external tax professionals.

Maintain appropriate documentation and controls for audit and regulatory requirements.

Monitor changes in accounting standards and financial regulations that may affect the business.

Internal Controls & Risk Management

Develop, implement, and continuously improve internal financial controls.

Identify financial and operational risks and recommend appropriate mitigation strategies.

Ensure proper segregation of duties and authorization procedures.

Safeguard company assets and confidential financial information.

Implement processes designed to prevent and detect errors, fraud, and financial mismanagement.





Leadership & Collaboration

Lead, mentor, and develop accounting and finance personnel.

Establish clear objectives, performance expectations, and professional development opportunities for the finance team.

Collaborate with operations, project management, procurement, human resources, and executive leadership.

Communicate financial information clearly to both financial and non-financial stakeholders.

Promote a culture of accountability, accuracy, continuous improvement, and financial discipline.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field required.

CPA, CMA, or other relevant professional certification preferred.

5 years of progressive accounting or finance experience, preferably in an engineering, construction, manufacturing, professional services, or project-based environment.

Prior experience in a Controller, Assistant Controller, Accounting Manager, or senior finance leadership role preferred.

Robust knowledge of U.S. GAAP and financial reporting requirements.

Experience with budgeting, forecasting, cash-flow management, and financial analysis.

Experience managing or supervising accounting personnel.

Strong understanding of internal controls and accounting processes.

Experience working with accounting/ERP systems and advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.

Pay: $168,100.00-$196,000.00 per year
