POSITION BACKGROUND:The General Manager – Power Services is a senior leadership role responsible for driving strategic growth, operational excellence, and overall financial performance across the division. Reporting directly to senior executive leadership, this position oversees a comprehensive operational portfolio that includes five core service areas: Electrical Projects, Electrical Maintenance, Electrical Engineering & Design, Electrical Shop & Field Labour, and Automation.Each service area is led by dedicated functional managers/supervisors.
The General
Manager provides overarching direction, alignment, and mentorship to these leaders while maintaining Profit & Loss (P&L;) accountability, delivering on revenue and contribution targets, and managing operations that serve both internal business requirements and external client contracts.CORE DUTIES:Strategic & Financial Leadership• P&L; Management: Direct and manage total divisional Profit & Loss, taking full accountability for meeting or exceeding revenue, gross margin, and net contribution targets.
- Strategic Planning: Develop and execute strategic business plans to advance market share, profitability, and service diversification.
- Resource Utilization & Pricing: Establish competitive pricing structures, oversee quote approval workflows, and optimize resource allocation across shop, field, and engineering operations.
- Expense Control: Authorize expenditure approvals, direct budgeting processes, and build business cases for new equipment or technology investments.Operational & Quality Oversight• Cross-Functional Integration: Align the five functional streams (Projects, Maintenance, Engineering/Design, Shop/Field Labour, and Automation) to ensure seamless delivery on complex technical scopes.
- Internal & External Delivery: Balance operational priorities to efficiently support internal requests of other divisions while maintaining high-service level of safety, quality and execution for all.
- Standards & Compliance: Drive adherence to quality management systems (such as ISO 9001), corporate safety compliance programs, and relevant regulatory codes.
- Process Optimization: Empower meaningful communication between office engineering, shop production, and field execution teams and other divisions to mitigate operational friction and enhance productivity, quality and safety.Business Development & Client Relations• Market Expansion: Drive growth strategies across external client sectors through active opportunity identification, major contract negotiations, and RFP responses.
- Account Management: Oversee business development and account management efforts to secure strategic partnerships and retain existing client relationships.
- Contract Administration: Serve as the primary contract authority and senior escalation point for key client relationships and commercial resolution.People & Team Leadership• Leadership Development: Manage, coach, and evaluate the functional leaders across Projects, Maintenance, Engineering, Shop/Field Labour, and Automation.
- Culture & Safety: Foster a high-performance culture grounded in safety, technical innovation, environmental stewardship, and accountability.
- Workforce Planning: Communicate with other internal divisions, Human Resources to support proactive recruitment, succession planning, skill development, and performance management across the division.QUALIFICATIONSRequired• Red Seal Journeyman Electrician.
- Minimum 5 years of senior management experience.
- Minimum 10 years of industrial,
oilfield, and/or construction experience.
- Fluent in the English language (reading, written, spoken).
- Proficient with the Canadian Electrical Code.
- Experience reading blueprints and technical drawings.
- Strong MS Office skills (Excel, Word).
- Excellent business acumen.
- Assertive leader able to successfully manage team members and other stakeholders.
- Capable of explaining complex technical specifications in a concise manner to Clients, Project Managers and administrators.
- Ability to deal with the public in a positive, courteous, and respectful manner.
- Proven ability to produce high-quality work while facing competing priorities and strict deadlines.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks and frequent demanding deadlines.
- Ability to handle changing schedules and priorities, with high-level prioritization skills.
- Robust work ethic and organizational planning skills with attention to detail.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team as required.
- Effective verbal and listening communication skills.Preferred• Knowledge and/or experience with ISO 9001 Quality Management System.
- Knowledge and/or experience with Occupational Health and Safety.
- Knowledge of a variety of industry-specific electrical code.WORKING CONDITIONS:Physical Demands• Regularly required to stand/sit, talk/hear, use hands/fingers to operate a computer and telephone, stoop, and kneel.
- Prolonged exposure to computer screens.
- Exposure to loud noises while in shop, or site environment.Work Environment• Office environment (80%), yard and shop environment (10%), Site Visits/Client Visits (10%)• On call 24/7• May be required to work weekends and outside of regular office hours.
- May be required to travel to project sites, meetings, and conferences.
- Pre-Access drug and alcohol testing may be required for Client site visits.
