Reporting to the Unit Manager, the Health Care Aide performs patient care on a busy surgery post-operative inpatient unit. The recent 5 East Surgical Care Unit opening Fall 2026 will support all surgical services at the site including Gynecological, Plastics, General, Urology, and Orthopedic Surgeries. This 36-bed unit is high turnover with high acuity and the successful candidate requires excellent communication, attention to detail, and organizational skills to support the team of nursing and other health care professionals.
A high level of independence and collaboration with the nursing team is required to meet the needs of the patient populations and ensure that the unit operates efficiently and effectively.

The Health Care
Aide (HCA) is a regulated health professional who provides direct personal care and health support services to clients across the lifespan, in accordance with their scope of practice, regulatory standards, and government legislation. Functional supervision is provided by a member of the nursing team and may occur directly or indirectly in accordance with client needs, care context,
and regulatory standards. Working collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team the HCA provides care in alignment with documented care plans and assigned or delegated tasks, delivering assistance with activities of daily living, monitoring and reporting changes in health status, and supporting the physical, emotional, psychosocial and behavioural well being of clients.They play a vital role in promoting comfort, dignity, and continuity of care, and demonstrate flexibility in responding to the needs of clients and the care team.
HCAs actively engage in continuous improvement through feedback, self-reflection, and learning opportunities. This includes intentionally living Covenant¿s values in day-to-day practice and reflecting them in decision-making, client interactions, teamwork, and the overall approach to care.

Shifts per cycle: 19 Shift Pattern: Days, Evenings, Weekends Days Off: As Per Rotation Additional Required Qualifications: At least one year of related General Surgery or Orthopedic Surgery experience required, within the last two years.
Current Basic Life Support Healthcare
Provider (Level C). Physically able to assist with all aspects of patient/resident care and transport, e.g. walking, standing, bending, lifting and turning and other physical tasks required on the unit. Basic computer skills.Connect Care Training.
