Position Scope
As a Plant Operator, you will perform daily tasks to gather data in support of technology development. The primary focus is to conduct plant test campaigns, operate plant equipment, and track plant activities in support of process development and future plant design. This position requires a 12-hour shifts following a 7-on / 7-off shift pattern (which includes night and day rotation).
This job is a 12-month temporary position and will be employed and paid through a 3rd party contractor. Champion a positive safety culture within the Operations A, B, C, D shifts. Be familiar with, and ensure adherence to core HSE policies including,
but not limited to: Contractor management; Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements.
Maintain the plant in a safe condition in line with all applicable regulations. Ensure that all safety related incidents, accidents and near misses are reported and investigated in line with company policy. Ensure that periodic safety inspections, daily rounds and other safety related requirements are completed in a timely fashion.
Complete training curriculum on Bridge system. Complete regular Field Level Hazard Assessments. Understand and follow Carbon Engineering’s Material Handling Policy to label and transport. Operate plant equipment efficiently, effectively, and safely.
Complete and authorize daily work permits as required. Develop, implement, and maintain policies, procedures, and permits for plant operations. Participate in test campaigns and production campaigns in line with the Operations Team schedule.
Maintain a well-organized site and exceptional housekeeping standards. Coordinate and oversee contractors working on site. Adjust process parameters to achieve targeted results outlined in test plans. Execute troubleshooting analysis of plant equipment.
Monitor parameters using local HMI and routine plant walk throughs.
Follow Standard Operating
Procedures (SOPs) for plant operations as required. Label and tag plant equipment. Respond to plant upsets and perform necessary actions to get equipment back online including field troubleshooting, equipment cleanouts and turnarounds, and supporting Maintenance Team actions. promote effective teamwork, a questioning mindset, and recognize failure as a learning opportunity.
Provide support, guidance, training, and coaching for new Plant Operators. Identify constraints to achieving plant objectives. Identify and apply appropriate quality control tools and techniques. Conduct daily workplace inspection and daily rounds of the plant.
Operate mobile equipment such as forklift and boom lift. Complete training requirements to learn about CE processes/procedures, and gain a critical understanding of plant systems, process fundamentals, and plant operations.
Chemical Technology
Diploma, Engineering Technology Diploma, Power Engineering certification or similar is considered an asset.
Experience: 3-5 years of plant operations experience in pulp and paper, water treatment, oil and gas or similar industrial setting is considered an asset. Mechanically inclined and hands-on experience with industrial plant operations. Function well in a job where priorities often change across operations, testing, troubleshooting and maintenance.
