ABOUT THE FIRM
Cove is a modern, fully remote accounting firm supporting small businesses across BC. We believe good accounting goes beyond getting the numbers right: it gives business owners clarity, builds strong relationships, and provides dependable support.
We’re collaborative, approachable, and down-to-earth, with high standards for the work we deliver. Our culture values flexibility, autonomy, and ownership, while creating opportunities for people to grow alongside the firm.
ABOUT THE ROLE
Cove has grown quickly, and I’m looking for an experienced Senior Bookkeeper who can take real ownership of the bookkeeping side of the practice.
This is not a role where you’ll be waiting for me to assign every task or tell you what needs to happen next. You’ll manage your own portfolio of clients from start to finish — overseeing deadlines, communicating directly with clients, identifying and resolving bookkeeping issues, and making sure files are clean, accurate and complete before they come to me for review.
I’m looking for someone who already has strong bookkeeping experience and is comfortable working independently, but who also wants to be part of something they can help build long-term.
This role is specifically suited to someone who wants the autonomy and ownership that can come with running a bookkeeping practice, without wanting to run their own business. You’ll have the chance to build strong client relationships, improve systems, shape how the bookkeeping side of Cove operates and eventually help lead a team — while Cove takes care of the broader responsibilities of owning and operating the firm.
Because of that, this position is not intended for someone who currently operates their own bookkeeping business, maintains an outside bookkeeping client base, or plans to build their own bookkeeping practice alongside their role at Cove. I’m looking for someone who wants to invest their bookkeeping career here and grow with Cove over the long term.
As Cove grows, I’d love for this role to grow with it, with increasing responsibility for the bookkeeping department, its systems, clients and eventually its team.
COMPENSATION DETAILS
Part-time: Base salary $28,000-$40,000 ( monthly bonuses)
Full-time: Base salary $40,000-$53,000 ( monthly bonuses)
A quick note: Our bookkeeping roles are not tied to hourly expectations. We work from client load, internal deadlines, and quality standards,
not from being online all day or filling time just to look active. But to give you an idea of how this usually translates into weekly hours:
~10-16 hours/week
~24–32 hours/week
Health & Wellness Fund: $1,200
Vacation: 2 weeks
Location: Remote, anywhere in Canada
Start Date: Ideally sometime between November 2026 and January 2027, though we’re versatile for the right candidate.
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
I’m looking for someone who can confidently own their work without needing significant day-to-day direction.
You should be able to look at a client file, understand what needs to happen, manage the workflow and deadlines, communicate directly with the client, troubleshoot issues and bring me a clean, review-ready file.
You don’t need to know everything — I’ll always be available for support and CPA-level questions — but I’m looking for someone who knows when to investigate an issue themselves, when to make a decision, and when something genuinely needs to be escalated.
You’ll likely be a great fit if you:
- Have 5 years of strong full-cycle bookkeeping experience
- Have experience independently managing multiple client files at once; public practice or multi-client bookkeeping firm experience is strongly preferred
- Have a strong understanding of Canadian bookkeeping, payroll, GST/HST and other sales tax compliance
- Are highly confident in QuickBooks Online
- Can review your own work and identify unusual balances, missing information or potential errors before a file reaches CPA review
- Are comfortable being the primary point of contact for your clients
- Proactively manage deadlines and follow up with clients for missing information
- Are a strong problem solver and will investigate issues before escalating them
- Enjoy improving processes, documenting SOPs and finding more efficient ways of doing things
- Are excited by the idea of helping grow a bookkeeping practice and potentially leading a bookkeeping team in the future
- Are looking for a long-term home for your bookkeeping career rather than building or maintaining your own bookkeeping business or client base
- Comfortable navigating softwares such as Dext, Sage Online, Xero and Financial Cents
WHAT YOU’LL DO
- Manage full-cycle weekly and monthly bookkeeping for your own portfolio of clients
- Take ownership of client deadlines, workflows and outstanding information
- Maintain clean, accurate and current books in QuickBooks Online and Dext
- Communicate directly with clients and act as their primary bookkeeping contact
- Proactively request missing information and follow up with clients as needed
- Set up and process payroll and related remittances
- Prepare and file GST/HST, PST and other applicable sales tax returns
- Review your own work and resolve discrepancies before submitting files for CPA review
- Identify bookkeeping or accounting issues and either resolve them independently or escalate them when CPA input is appropriate
- Ensure client deliverables are accurate and completed on time
- Improve and maintain client SOPs and internal bookkeeping workflows
- Identify opportunities to make our bookkeeping processes more efficient and consistent
- Help improve the client experience as the bookkeeping practice grows
- Over time, take on greater ownership of the bookkeeping function and potentially support or lead additional bookkeeping team members
WHAT WE OFFER
- Fully remote work anywhere in Canada
- Flexibility to build a schedule that works for your life
- Established systems and SOPs, with the autonomy to help improve them
- A high degree of independence and ownership over your client portfolio
- Support and review from a CPA without unnecessary day-to-day micromanagement
- The opportunity to play a meaningful role in building and growing Cove’s bookkeeping practice
- Room for the position to evolve into greater bookkeeping leadership as the firm grows
- A supportive, friendly and down-to-earth work environment
