Job Overview
HSDE welcomes applications from qualified individuals who are passionate about helping youth learn, explore, and innovate. University students, particularly senior undergraduate and graduate students, are strongly preferred.
Facilitators will lead engaging, inquiry-based STEAM learning experiences through hands-on projects, experimentation, research, problem-solving, and real-world challenges.
This is not a childcare or camp counselor role. Facilitators mentor youth as they ask questions, test ideas, develop solutions, and present what they have learned.
Key Responsibilities
Lead hands-on STEM activities that encourage curiosity, critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving.
Guide youth in investigating questions, testing ideas, designing solutions, and learning from mistakes.
Support participants in developing projects addressing community and real-world challenges.
Create an inclusive, respectful, and supportive learning environment.
Track participant engagement, progress, projects, and achievements.
Collaborate with the program team to improve activities and learning experiences.
Build positive relationships with youth, families, community partners, and team members.
Follow HSDE's youth safety, privacy, skilled conduct, and program policies.
What Success Looks Like
Successful facilitators:
Spark curiosity and a love of learning.
Encourage youth to ask questions, think critically, and explore multiple solutions.
Promote independence, creativity, collaboration, and problem-solving.
Help participants complete meaningful projects they have designed, built, researched, or presented.
Qualifications
Open to qualified applicants with relevant education, experience, skills, or demonstrated interest in STEM and youth learning.
University students in Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Natural Sciences, Health Sciences, Technology, Architecture, Design, or related fields are strongly preferred.
Experience in research, coding, laboratory work, engineering, design, technology, or inquiry-based projects is an asset.
Ability to explain complex concepts clearly and engagingly to youth.
Bilingual in English and French.
Experience working with youth through education, mentorship, community, or volunteer activities is an asset.
Strong communication, teamwork, creativity, and problem-solving skills.
Pay: $16.40-$18.00 per hour
