Horizon Recruitment is recruiting for a Senior Accountant to join a growing boutique accounting, tax and advisory firm in Langley, BC. This role is designed for an experienced public practice accountant who is ready to take greater ownership of client files, build stronger relationships with business owners and work more closely with Partners and Managers. You will support a diverse portfolio of privately held businesses and their owners, combining year-end accounting and tax compliance with growing exposure to tax planning, business advisory, estate and succession planning, and outsourced CFO services. Responsibilities
Take ownership of year-end engagements for privately held corporate clients from initial information gathering through completion
Prepare working papers, adjusting entries and financial statements
Prepare and review compilation engagements and support review engagements
Complete corporate income tax returns, related schedules and personal tax returns
Identify accounting, tax and business issues and work with Managers and Partners to develop appropriate solutions
Communicate directly with clients to gather information, answer questions and keep engagements on schedule
Build an understanding of each client's business, ownership structure and broader financial circumstances
Manage multiple client files, deadlines and commitments with a high level of independence
Review work prepared by junior team members and provide practical coaching and feedback
Support Staff Accountants with technical questions and file preparation
Work with Partners and Managers on more complex accounting, tax and advisory matters
Assist with CRA correspondence and information requests
Gain exposure to tax planning, reorganizations, estate and succession planning, outsourced CFO services and other advisory assignments
Contribute ideas that improve internal processes, templates and workflows as the firm grows
Requirements
CPA designation or significant progress toward completing the CPA program
Approximately 3-5+ years of Canadian public practice accounting experience
Strong experience preparing year-end working paper files and financial statements for privately held companies
Experience with compilation engagements and exposure to review engagements
Strong knowledge of Canadian corporate and personal income tax compliance
Good working knowledge of ASPE and accounting issues affecting privately held businesses
Ability to manage multiple client engagements and deadlines independently
Confidence communicating directly with clients and asking the right questions to move files forward
Ability to identify accounting, tax and business issues rather than simply process information
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Strong organization and attention to detail
Comfortable taking ownership in a smaller, partner-led firm
Experience with CaseWare, Taxprep or similar public practice software is an asset
Remuneration
Base salary of $80,000-$90,000, depending on experience
