BC Hydro is located at Surrey Trades Training Centre. The company is currently looking for applications for the role of Engineer-in-Training (EIT) – Electrical. We are seeking a self-disciplined individual with exceptional interpersonal skills. The chosen applicant will be required to join and begin their duties as soon as possible. The position is offered as permanent, full-time employment.

The candidate will work as part of the Engineers-in-Training (EIT) Program in this position.
The candidate will complete a two year training program that provides valuable work experience leading to a Professional Engineering Designation and a rewarding engineering career with BC Hydro.
The candidate will develop engineering skills through different types of work, including design, field work, and project management.
The candidate will build skills, knowledge, and professional relationships through four six-month rotations in engineering departments across the company before returning to the home department.
The candidate will complete at least one field rotation and may work in a different region of the province.
The candidate will work on real projects from the beginning while contributing as a valued member of the team.
The candidate will take part in technical training and professional development activities.
The candidate will build competence for registration as a Professional Engineer with EGBC through a broad range of on-the-job experiences.
Job Requirements
The candidate must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Integrated Engineering recognized by Canadian Universities.
The candidate must be eligible for registration as an EIT with Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EGBC).
The candidate must have two (2) years or less work experience towards EGBC’s Professional Engineer requirement.
The candidate must have robust English communication skills, including strengths in verbal and technical writing, analysis, presentation and interpersonal communication.
The candidate must have the ability to work independently, take initiative, and recognize when guidance is required.
The candidate must maintain a Driver’s License: Class 5 in positive standing as a condition of employment for this job.
Security and safety
The candidate will be required to successfully complete pre-employment alcohol and drug testing as a condition of employment for this safety-sensitive position.
Work conditions
The candidate will be required to work in Burnaby at the Edmonds office for most roles and may temporarily move to a facility outside of the Lower Mainland.
