Position: Senior Youth Worker - Day Program Location: Senior Youth Worker-Directions Day Program Senior Youth Worker - Directions Day Program Competition #51-26 This is a full time, 35hrs per week position that serves homeless, at risk, street-involved, and street-entrenched youth, and takes a leadership role in internal case management andmaintainingthe safety of the resource. This position provides guidance, information and referral to youth accessing the centre, promoting safety and, where possible,assistingin their transition from the street to healthier, alternative lifestyles. This position takes on a mentoring role with Youth Support Workers, practicum students, and others in the Day Program.
This position reports to the Day Program Assistant Manager of Directions Youth Services Centre, or the Program Manager in the absence of the Assistant Manager. Three weeks’ vacation for full-time staff * entitlement increases from there Two and a half paid Agency days for full-time staff Five paid days for education leave/year One paid Moving Day/year Referral Bonus Program Ongoing support, mentoring, and recognition to help with engagement and career growth Employee Assistance Plan Long Term Disability Plan Insurance, Travel insurance, ++ Work Hours: 35 hours per week (Monday to Friday), 8:00 am-4:00 pm Education, Training, Experience Bachelor's Degree in Social Work or other relevant education One (1) year experience working at risk and/or homeless youth in areas such as child protection, life skill development, community support and /or community outreach Identify individual needs for youth accessing the centre and provide support, encouragement,
collaboration and education to clients in matters related to crisis intervention, harm reduction, conflict resolution, community resources, alcohol and drug information, and advocacy to clients and referral calls utilizing youth social work best practice. Initiate MCFD involvement whereappropriate todevelop and support Integrated Case Management strategies.
Maintainappropriate notes, statistics,logsand critical incident reports in a professional and thorough manner in the online database when applicable. Ensure adherence to all program and agency policies, procedures, safety standards, and accreditation standards including the Centre’s Facility Management Plan. Directions Youth
Services is a division of Family Services of Greater Vancouver (FSGV), which for more than 90 years has provided a variety of essential resources for children, families, and individuals in the Greater Vancouver community. We believe in the resiliency of Vancouver’s youth who are at-risk, homeless, and street-involved. We assist youth under the age of 25 to get counselling for trauma, mental health, or substance issues.
Our teams strive to create spaces and build connections with youth who are facing challenges of street life, substance use, mental health concerns, and disconnection from their communities. Directions inclusive programs of shelter and drop-in, safe houses, and other unique programs are committed to being a community leader in harm reduction work and fostering low-barrier spaces where all youth are welcome. #
