Ready to be part of our team?

We are looking for an SAP ABAP DEVELOPER in our Langley, B.C office!

- This is an in-office position (5 days in office, not hybrid or remote).
- Sponsorship is not available for this position.

Summary: As an SAP Technical Developer (S/4HANA / BTP), you will design, build, and maintain modern SAP applications and extensions using ABAP, the ABAP RESTful Application Programming Model (RAP), CDS views, and SAP Fiori/UI5. Working closely with functional consultants, business analysts, product owners, and fellow developers, you will deliver scalable, high-quality solutions that follow SAP's Clean Core principles and support the organization's ongoing digital transformation. Your role spans full-lifecycle development from technical design and coding through debugging, integration, and performance optimization, across cloud, on-premises, and hybrid landscapes.

Essential Duties

Development & Customization

- Design, develop, and maintain SAP applications using modern ABAP (ABAP for Cloud / ABAP Cloud), OO ABAP, RAP, and CDS views, including reports, interfaces, enhancements, forms, and workflows.
- Build side-by-side and in-app extensions on SAP BTP rather than modifying the digital core, in line with Clean Core and keep-the-core-clean strategy.
- Develop and optimize output solutions using SAP Fiori Elements, Adobe Forms, and modern ALV/list frameworks (migrating legacy SAP Script and classic Smart Forms where applicable).

Integration & Interfaces

- Develop and maintain integrations using OData/REST services, RESTful APIs, RFCs, BAPIs, IDocs, and events, connecting SAP with external and cloud systems.
- Leverage SAP Integration Suite / API Management and event-driven patterns to ensure reliable, real-time data exchange.
- Support data migration and conversion using the SAP S/4HANA Migration Cockpit and modern ETL/migration tooling (with legacy LSMW/BDC as needed).

Enhancements & Modifications

- Extend standard SAP functionality using BAdIs, enhancement frameworks, and released extension points/APIs that remain upgrade stable.
- Debug, troubleshoot, and refactor existing ABAP programs to resolve issues, reduce technical debt,

and improve maintainability and performance.

Collaboration & Support

- Partner with functional teams, business analysts, and product owners to translate business requirements into clear technical designs and specifications.
- Provide technical support across testing, implementation, hyper care, and post-go-live phases.
- Assist in resolving production incidents and ensuring overall system stability and reliability.

Performance Optimization

- Analyze and optimize ABAP and CDS performance using code pushdown to SAP HANA, the ABAP Test Cockpit (ATC), SQL trace, and runtime analysis tools.
- Apply coding, debugging, and performance-tuning best practices, including automated testing and static code checks.

Documentation & Compliance

- Create and maintain technical documentation for developed solutions.
- Ensure compliance with coding standards, security policies, and SAP development best practices.
- Follow the Group Code of Conduct and Group Compliance.
- Follow Compliance requirements per "KNA-SOP-1705 Compliance Roles and Responsibilities."
- Perform all other duties as assigned.

Education / Experience

- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
- Minimum of 5–7 years of hands-on SAP development experience.
- Strong expertise in ABAP programming, including Object-Oriented ABAP (OOABAP) and contemporary ABAP (ABAP Cloud).
- Hands-on experience with SAP S/4HANA, including migration/conversion considerations and Clean Core extensibility.
- Practical experience with CDS views, RAP, and OData service development.
- Experience with SAP Fiori / SAP UI5 and SAP BTP (side-by-side extensions, CAP, or BTP services).
- Familiarity with SAP functional modules such as SD, MM, FI, CO, or PP is a plus.
- Strong problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills with a collaborative, team-oriented mindset.

Preferred Skills

- SAP certification in ABAP, S/4HANA development, or SAP BTP.
- Experience with Agile/Scrum and DevOps practices, including CI/CD (e.g., abapGit, gCTS, Git-based transport).
- Strong knowledge of web services, RESTful APIs, and OData services.
- Familiarity with the SAP HANA database, CDS views, and code-to-data optimization.
- Exposure to SAP Integration Suite, SAP Build (Workzone/Process Automation), or SAP AI/Joule extensibility.

Personal Attributes

The successful candidate will exhibit the following attributes:

Careful Technical Judgment

- They are thoughtful and deliberate when working through complex issues that require accuracy, consistency, and sound reasoning.
- They are comfortable slowing down when needed to understand risks, trade-offs, and downstream impact after forming conclusions.

Steady Problem Solver

- They stay composed when issues are unclear, urgent, or technically challenging.
- They are persistent without becoming rigid, working through obstacles with patience and practical judgment.

Dependable Follow-Through

- They take personal ownership of commitments and can be counted on to carry work through to a reliable outcome.
- They are attentive to details that others may miss, especially when consistency and stability matter.

Collaborative Credibility

- They build trust by being clear, responsive, and grounded when working with people who may have different priorities or levels of technical understanding.
- They listen carefully after offering input and are able to contribute expertise without creating unnecessary friction.

Practical Learning Agility

- They are naturally curious and willing to adjust as tools, systems, and ways of working continue to evolve.
- They can learn through ambiguity without needing to master everything immediately, while still applying thoughtful judgment to new information.

Calm Service Mindset

- They remain patient and constructive when supporting others through problems, questions, or competing expectations.
- They are motivated by being helpful and dependable, while maintaining appropriate boundaries and sound judgment.
