Job Overview

We are looking for a reliable and hands-on Building Caretaker / Maintenance Worker to take care of a residential building in Portage la Prairie.

This is an independent position where you will be responsible for keeping the building clean, protected, and well maintained. The position includes regular cleaning and maintenance, grounds work, snow removal, and responding to maintenance requests and urgent issues when needed.

Responsibilities

- Clean and maintain common areas, hallways, stairwells and washrooms
- Mop floors and keep common areas clean and presentable
- Collect and manage garbage
- Perform regular building inspections
- Handle minor repairs and general maintenance
- Perform basic plumbing work, such as unclogging toilets and drains and replacing small plumbing parts
- Replace light bulbs, door handles, hinges, locks and other small items
- Perform grass cutting, trimming and general grounds maintenance
- Perform snow removal, salting and ice control
- Check vacant units when required
- Respond to tenant maintenance requests
- Keep basic maintenance and inspection records
- Report larger or specialized repairs when a contractor is required




- Respond to urgent/emergency building issues when required

Requirements

- Reliable, responsible and dependable
- Comfortable working independently
- Comfortable with physical work, cleaning, grass cutting and snow removal
- Basic maintenance and handyman skills
- Basic plumbing experience is an asset
- Reliable transportation is preferred
- Must be able to respond to urgent issues within approximately 30 minutes when required
- Must be available for occasional after-hours emergency calls
- Good communication and professional attitude
- Background check required

Schedule

Approximately 15–20 hours per week, with additional hours when extra work is required.

This is a good opportunity for someone who enjoys hands-on work, takes responsibility, and wants to be responsible for the day-to-day care of a residential building.
