Job Description
The Director of Finance & Controller is a strategic and operational finance leader responsible for the organization's financial stewardship, accounting operations, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, risk management, and internal controls. The incumbent ensures the integrity, accuracy, and timeliness of all financial information while supporting organizational decision-making and long-term sustainability.
While reporting administratively to the Vice President, People, Performance & Operations, the Director of Finance & Controller maintains an independent and direct accountability relationship with the Chief Executive Officer and the Board of Directors regarding financial reporting, audit outcomes, regulatory compliance, financial risk management, and the overall integrity of the organization's financial statements.
Qualifications
- Accountable for the preparation and oversight of the operating and capital budgets for the Hospital.
- Leads the annual budgeting process and multi-year financial planning.
- Oversees monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements and management reports.
- Ensures the accuracy, completeness and integrity of all financial reporting.
- Leads financial modeling, business analysis, and long-term financial planning initiatives.
- Presents financial results, forecasts, trends and recommendations to the CEO, Executive Team, Finance Committee, and Board of Directors, as required.
- Develops and implements financial policies, procedures and best practices.
- Coaches Finance Team in the effective performance of their roles.
Education and/or Certification
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration – Required
- Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation – Required
- Master’s Degree in Business or Related Field – Preferred
- Minimum 7-10 years of progressive experience in a leadership role preferably in a hospital/healthcare setting – Required
- Significant experience as a Controller, Director of Finance,
or equivalent senior finance role – Required

- Strong understanding of Canadian accounting standards and financial reporting requirements
- Excellent communication and presentation skills with the ability to explain complex financial matters to non-financial audiences
- Demonstrated expertise in financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysisAdvanced knowledge of internal controls, risk management and financial governance
- Strong business acumen and strategic thinking capabilities
- Exceptional analytical, problem solving, and decision-making skills
- High degree of integrity, professional judgment, discretion, and accountability
- Proficiency with financial management systems, ERP platforms, and Microsoft Office applications
