We are seeking a highly visionary, hands-on Principal Software Engineer to lead the technical evolution of software development at Coinbase. You will be a key architect and technical pioneer driving Coinbase’s advancement in AI-driven engineering.You will determine how to leverage AI to enhance and reimagine workflows for the next decade. shifting focus from routine implementation to high-value architecture and product creation.What you’ll do (job duties)Architect an AI-First Ecosystem:Deeply embed AI agents into the development loop — automating test generation, refactoring legacy code, proactively detecting bugs, and optimizing performance before code hits production.Pioneer LLM Integration:Prototype, build, and deploy the next generation of autonomous engineering tools that rewrite the SDLC with large language models and agents.Bridge the Gap Between AI and Fundamentals:Partner with infrastructure to ensure AI tools scale securely and performantly on a stable, well-tested underlying architecture.Treat Platform as a Product:Guide the technical direction to build and scale an Internal Developer Platform that treats internal engineers as customers; remove friction to enable focus on solving hard crypto problems.Define the AI-Native Engineering Standard:Help define changing workflows, standards, and best practices for the next generation of Coinbase engineering as AI handles more implementation tasks.What we look for in you (job requirements)Deep AI Conviction & Application:Strong thesis on how LLMs and agents will rewrite the SDLC; experience or clear plan for applying AI to solve engineering bottlenecks.Principal-Level Technical Authority:Deep judgment in engineering fundamentals — CI/CD, public cloud (AWS/GCP), container orchestration, and modern testing methodologies; proven track record of cross-organizational architectural impact.Product Mindset:Empathy for developers; treat the platform as aproduct, gather feedback, and iterate to reduce friction and improve user satisfaction.AI Agents:Direct experience deploying internal AI assistants, Copilot-at-scale initiatives, or autonomous coding agents.Quality at Speed:Ability to automate for high velocity without sacrificing security and reliability; design systems enablingfrequent,
