About the Client:

We're seeking a compassionate caregiver for an 86-year-old woman currently residing in hospice care at Arch in Sault Ste. Marie. She was given a terminal cancer diagnosis in April with an initial prognosis of 25 days, but has far surpassed expectations and continues to hold on. While the hospice staff are wonderful, they have limited time to spend with each resident, and she's experiencing significant loneliness spending most of her day bedridden. She's a sweet, lovely, intelligent German woman with a outstanding sense of humor, though she can be quite sassy and occasionally short-tempered when not feeling well—which is completely understandable given her circumstances. She's very frail but is permitted and able to get out of bed with assistance. Some days she has limited capacity and can only manage 10-15 minutes outside, while other days she's more alert and can enjoy longer visits.

Responsibilities:

- Assist the client with transfers from bed to wheelchair
- Take her outside in her wheelchair for fresh air and companionship
- Provide engaging conversation and emotional support
- Adapt visit length and activities based on her daily energy levels and comfort
- Maintain patience and understanding during difficult moments
- Communicate any concerns or changes in condition

What We're Looking For:

- Experience with hospice or palliative care preferred
- Strong transfer and mobility assistance skills
- Patience and understanding with clients experiencing end-of-life care




- Ability to remain calm and compassionate when the client is having difficult days
- Excellent interpersonal skills and warm demeanor
- Reliability and consistency
- English speaking

Schedule:

Two visits per week, 2 hours per visit (4 hours total weekly). Flexible days and times can be arranged based on caregiver availability and hospice visiting hours. The family is hoping to begin services as soon as possible and is committed to maintaining consistent care for as long as the client remains with us.

She sometimes has limited capacity for outdoor time (10-30 minutes) depending on how she's feeling. The facility staff are wonderful but have limited time for individual attention. Client is the power of attorney and lives in London, so cannot visit regularly.
