Relief instructors are required for the School of Academic Upgrading and Development at each of the following three campuses: Castlegar, Silver King (Nelson), and Trail.Main Duties and ResponsibilitiesTeaching in the SOAR, Steps to Opportunities, Academics, and Readiness (Accessible Education & Training) program in Job Readiness, Self-Awareness, Interdependence, as well as sector specific workplace skills for Food Service, Entrepreneurship, Agriculture and Sustainability, Applied Arts, Retail, LeadershipSupport student learning workplace readiness, life skills, study skills, self-awareness and teamworkSkills, Knowledge, and AbilitiesA learner-centered teaching philosophy and aptitude for engaging students at all levels of the SOAR programAbility to teach across the Accessible Education and Training curriculumAbility to teach in various instructional modes, including integrating Moodle, Zoom, synchronous and asynchronous delivery, video lecture capture and editing, and file sharing with OneDriveExcellent communication, teamwork and time management skills in a remote and in-person environmentAdaptability and willingness to work versatile hoursAbility to instruct practical skills in food service and operationsAbility to efficiently use OneDrive, Outlook,
Zoom and MoodleKnowledge of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada's Calls to ActionAdaptability and willingness to work flexible hoursEducation and ExperienceA Bachelor's degree relevant to Accessible Education and Training or an alternate Bachelor's degree plus equivalent certification for supporting adults with diverse abilitiesTeaching Certificate or Provincial Instructor Diploma preferredFive years' experience working with adults with diverse abilities in a learning setting, including lesson planning, student evaluation and behavioural supportA minimum of two years' experience working in the food service and/or hospitality fieldExperience supporting individuals and groups with special needs in the community*An equivalent combination of education and experience may be consideredThis is a relief position (0%), commencing October 12, 2026, and ending July 31, 2027. Salary and Benefits are in accordance with the BCGEU Collective Agreement.
