Join us as we build this new industry called aerial robotics.About the RoleWe are seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead the design and commercialization of high-performance mechanical systems for aerial robotics.This role focuses on developing durable, reliable, and manufacturable hardware that performs consistently in real-world environments. You will work on systems involving motion, load transfer, actuation, and precision control, taking them from early prototypes to scalable production.The ideal candidate has strong experience building mechanical systems that must operate repeatedly under dynamic conditions, and knows how to translate prototypes into production-ready products.What You’ll DoMechanical System DesignDesign and develop mechanical subsystems involving motion, actuation, and load-bearing structuresPerform structural, thermal, and dynamic analysis to ensure performance under real-world conditionsOptimize designs for weight, strength, stiffness, and efficiencyDynamic Systems & PrecisionEngineer systems with controlled motion and tight positional accuracy under external disturbancesDesign for repeatability and stability in systems subject to vibration, shock, and changing loadsAnalyze and mitigate issues such as backlash, compliance, oscillation, and wearDesign components and assemblies for high cycle life and long-term field usePerform tolerance analysis, failure analysis,
and root cause investigationLead or contribute to FMEA and reliability engineering effortsDefine and execute validation and environmental testing (vibration, drop, thermal, ingress)Design for Manufacturing (DFM/DFA)Translate prototypes into scalable, cost-effective production designsSimplify assemblies, reduce part count, and improve manufacturabilityWork closely with suppliers and manufacturers on process selection, tolerances, and yield optimizationDevelop drawings, BOMs, assembly procedures, and QC standardsCross-Functional IntegrationCollaborate with electrical, software, and systems teams to integrate mechanical systems into complete productsSupport system bring-up, testing, and iteration in real-world conditionsContribute to overall system architecture and product decisionsWhat You’ll NeedBachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related field5+ years of experience designing mechanical systems for robotics, aerospace, automotive, or industrial hardwareStrong proficiency in CAD (e.G., SolidWorks or similar)Core Engineering SkillsExperience designing dynamic mechanical systems (e.G., actuators, gear trains, transmissions, cable-driven systems, or similar)Solid understanding of:Structural mechanics and load pathsMaterials selection (metals, composites, polymers)Bearings, gears, and motion systemsGD&T; and tolerance stack-upsHands-On ExperiencePrototyping and iterative development (machining, 3D printing, test rigs)Mechanical testing, debugging, and failure analysisTaking products from concept through productionPreferred QualificationsExperience with robotics, drones, or electromechanical systemsExperience designing systems subject to dynamic loads and environmental stressBackground in high-reliability or safety-critical systems (aerospace, automotive, defense)Experience with precision mechanisms or controlled motion systemsExperience scaling products through EVT/DVT/PVT into productionFamiliarity with supplier manufacturing processes (CNC, casting, injection molding, composites)#J-18808-Ljbffr
