Course Code and Title

EDEA 345-001. Music Curriculum and Instruction for Generalists

Description

Study of materials and instructional techniques grounded in an understanding of basic musical concepts and contemporary theories of music teaching and learning. Definition of musical objectives and rationales, selection and development of materials, review of MEQ guidelines. Participation through singing, movement, listening, discussion and lesson planning and implementation. This course is not Team taught or offered online.

Teaching Qualification Requirements (TQRs)

- 1. Master’s degree (In exceptional circumstances applicants without a Master's degree but with significant research or qualified experience related to the course content may be considered).
- 2. Degree in Music Education or equivalent.
- 3. Teaching degree or equivalent, and experience teaching music in elementary and/or secondary schools.

Experience

- 1. Experience teaching in Quebec Elementary Schools.
- 2. Demonstrated knowledge of course content and music education.
- 3. Knowledge of the Quebec Education Program (QEP).
- 4. Familiarity with the professional competencies specified by the Ministère de l’Éducation.
- 5. Previous successful experience teaching similar course(s) to pre-service teachers an asset.

Other

- 1. Commitment to working with a team of committed and engaged instructors.
- 2. Must be available to attend course coordination and planning meeting minimum of 2 weeks in advance of course start date.

Additional Information

- 1. Familiarity using MyCourses or similar online platforms.
- 2. Familiarity with online platforms such as ZOOM are an asset.
- 3. Familiarity with teaching blended classes.
- 4.



Understandings about equity and diversity issues and how to address these in classrooms.
- 5. Technology skills to practice.
