Job DescriptionReporting to the Supervisor, Fleet Services or designate, be responsible for the maintenance and repair of City equipment.ResponsibilitiesPerforming maintenance service and inspection on equipmentDiagnosing and repairing defectsRepairing equipment or other City property outside of the garage areaModifying and remedying defects that develop in equipmentOperating gas and electrical welding equipmentOperating City equipmentResponsible for full garage operation during night shiftPerforming various duties related to Winter Control/Call Board activitiesRequirements:Must possess valid Truck and Coach Technician Certification (310T) and possess or be able to obtain Automotive Service Technician Certification (310S)Possess or be able to obtain Automotive Propane Certificate ICE-P and Ozone Depletion Prevention (ODP)Automotive Natural Gas Certificate ICE-NG and Heavy-duty Equipment Certificate (421A) would be considered an assetMinimum two (2) years of experience in repairing off-road as well as heavy-duty equipment. Demonstrated ability to make inspections of automotive equipment for service and to diagnose and repair electrical circuits, solenoid controls,



hydraulic systems and automotive computer systems as applied to City and off-road equipmentDemonstrated skill in the use of tools and in the operation of machines and equipment commonly used in the automotive mechanics' tradePossession and maintenance of a valid Ontario Driver's Licence, in positive standing (minimum Class DZ), a driver's abstract showing no demerit points, and the ability to pass the Corporation's tests for motor vehicle operationGood communication skills and ability to understand and follow oral and written instructionsAble to read, understand and follow general and technical instructionsAble to complete forms and maintain accurate records relevant to the job, in a computerized environmentGood interpersonal skills, respectful, tact and courtesy in discussing information with operators, colleagues and supervisorsEstablished skills and experience using Microsoft Office applications and related softwareThe job requires shift work necessary to fulfil the requirements of the operationMust be able to serve on the Winter Call BoardKnowledge and understanding of, and ability to apply, relevant safety policies, standards and legislation (Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act, WHMIS, etc.)As a condition of employment, the City of Oshawa will require successful candidates to undergo a Criminal Records and Judicial Matters check and an employment medical.
