The Environmental Services Operator will be responsible for operating and maintaining the municipal water and wastewater treatment systems.Location: Water Treatment PlantReporting To: Environmental Services SupervisorResponsibilities:Maintain, operate, and inspect water distribution and wastewater collection system assetsPerform water quality and system tests and take corrective actionsPerform operations and maintenance activities supporting the optimal operation of water and wastewater treatment plantsRead flow meters, gauges, and other recording instruments to measure water output and consumption levels, turbidity content and chlorine levelsObserve and record information related to pumps, valves, motors, and other water treatment equipmentMaintain data logs and perform laboratory analysis including MOE regulatory compliance sampling and submissionPerform lab work, analyze test results and instrument readings and make adjustmentsConduct hydrant checks and repair or replace hydrants; Maintain areas around hydrants in a clean and secure mannerStore, handle and mix chemicals and use in accordance with standard operating procedures or as dictated by water qualityMonitor, repair, and replace distribution pipelines and fixtures for a variety of Municipal systemsTroubleshoot and repair main sewage line breaks and installs new lateral linesRespond to emergency callouts and coordinate repairs to water and wastewater equipment and servicesRespond to questions and complaints from the public by providing information and resolving problemsConduct preventative maintenance and repair work on electrical pumps, valves, mixers and piping and checks valves and drainsClean up spills of a variety of materials, including hazardous materialsComplete logbook entries and daily record sheets and prepare reports and work ordersEnsure all work is performed in compliance with relevant standards, legislation, and regulationsComply with Municipality of Kincardine policies and proceduresPerform other tasks as assigned by managementEducation & Experience Requirements:Post-secondary education in Environmental Studies or a related field of studyWastewater Treatment and Collection – Class 2Water Treatment and Distribution – Class 2Operators with OIT or Class 1 Licenses may be consideredValid Ontario Class G Driver's License; Valid Ontario DZ License is considered an assetRequired Knowledge, Skills & Competencies:Previous experience in the electrical/mechanical fieldsDemonstrated communications skills – written, verbal and interpersonalComfortable working independently and in a field environmentAbility to work safely and take initiativeExcellent organization and time management skillsAbility to exercise good judgment in decision‐makingDemonstrated work history that highlights teamwork and a positive attitudeEmployment Information:Regular, Full-Time PositionUnion PositionGroup 5 (Step 1 $35.80/hr - Step 5 $43.95/hr)40 Hours per WeekParticipation in the Operator on-call rotationThis job posting is for an existing position within our organization.
