Candidates with less experience may also be considered for Technician openings.Key ResponsibilitiesThe Lead Hand is responsible for coordinating the day-to-day maintenance activities of the shop. The Lead Hand must achieve set standards of maintenance within budgeted costs and in accordance with company policy and procedure. The position is directly accountable to the Assistant General Manager for the effective utilization of shop facilities, equipment/manpower, and the maintenance, efficiency, and safety of buses serviced.Assists in all aspects of maintenanceTrain recent employees in safe and productive operating proceduresPerform administrative work, as requiredDisplay professional leadership with fellow employees in support of company goals and valuesMaintain a positive and professional relationship with co-workers, drivers,



and operational staffWork in accordance with Company Policies/Procedures and Government RegulationsAssumes accountability for each employee's quality of work and productivityWorks with Assistant General Manager to identify corrective action(s)Stay aware of key cost areas such as warranties and suppliesSchedules sequence of maintenance services and semi-annual inspections on buses to optimize balances between operating requirements, downtime of revenue equipment and overall shop productivityEnsure compliance with other maintenance standards and policies including tire condition, winter works, yard, building and mechanical equipment conditionRecord and reports accident damage to equipment and any/all personal injuriesMaintain high level of awareness amongst personnel of potential task related hazardsCheck that work orders are accurate and appropriate for work performed; clarify work with dispatch as requiredContinuously monitor effectiveness of bus cleaning & ensures standards are followed and metEnsure that all regulatory requirements are met in the handling of hazardous materialsProvide hands-on shop floor coverage as required during employee absences, vacations or breaks to support operational continuity and ensure maintenance priorities are completedRequirementsAutomotive Journeyperson TicketCVIP (Commercial Vehicle Inspection Program) License considered an assetSouthland will supply training for qualifications that are required or preferred, such as CVIP and maintenance procedures; we will also assist with Blue Seal Certification
