About the PositionAscension Automation Solutions is looking for a skilled and motivated Metal Fabricator to join our team.This is a fabrication and fitting position — not a welding-only position. Strong fitting ability is a must-have. The successful candidate will be responsible for reading drawings, measuring, laying out, cutting, fitting, assembling, and welding custom components and structures to precise specifications.The majority of the work is completed independently, and the ability to accurately interpret drawings, determine dimensions, fit components together, and produce quality fabricated parts is essential. Welding is an important part of the position, but candidates must be comfortable and experienced with the complete fabrication process from measurement and layout through fitting, assembly, and final welding.Qualifications and Core SkillsMinimum 3 years of custom fabrication and fitting experience requiredStrong metal fitting and layout ability is requiredAbility to accurately measure, fit, align, tack, and assemble components before final weldingAbility to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, sketches, and fabrication plansMinimum 3 years of MIG and Stick welding experience required; TIG welding is an assetCurrent CWB welding ticket(s) considered an assetAbility to properly use precision measuring tools and equipment to take accurate measurementsSolid knowledge of the properties and characteristics of various metals and other materialsAbility to determine appropriate materials, dimensions, tolerances, and fabrication methods from drawings and specificationsAbility to identify and correct fit-up, measurement, alignment, and fabrication issuesStrong mathematical and analytical skillsStrong troubleshooting and problem-solving skillsAbility to work independently and in a team settingAbility to work closely with mechanical designers, welders, machinists, other trades, and supervisors to confirm measurements, calculations, fit-up, and fabrication requirementsAbility to discuss work assignments with supervisors and clarify expectations before beginning workExcellent attention to detail and commitment to producing quality workExcellent time management skillsStrong communication skillsFlexible and adaptable as project requirements and timelines changeRoles and ResponsibilitiesThe Metal Fabricator will be responsible for producing custom parts, assemblies, frames, guards,



and other fabricated components while working from accurate measurements, drawings, specifications, and instructions.A robust candidate will demonstrate the ability to:Review drawings, blueprints, sketches, instructions, and sample parts to understand project specificationsMeasure, mark, lay out, cut, and prepare materials for fabricationFit and assemble components accurately prior to weldingInterpret drawings and determine appropriate dimensions, angles, clearances, and fit-up requirementsUse fabrication and fitting techniques to ensure components are properly aligned, square, level, and positionedPlan and organize the sequence of work required to complete a project efficientlySelect and set up appropriate fabrication equipment and machineryOperate various fabrication equipment, including saws, grinders, drills, cutting equipment, and other hand and power toolsPerform MIG and Stick welding as required; TIG welding is an assetTack and weld fabricated components while maintaining proper alignment and dimensionsPerform quality control on completed pieces to ensure they meet drawings, specifications, and required tolerancesWork from sketches, prints, operation sheets, preliminary drawings, and written or verbal instructionsIdentify and troubleshoot fabrication, fit-up, dimensional, and welding issuesMake adjustments and corrections as required to achieve proper fit and finished dimensionsMaintain a clean, organized, and safe work areaPerform routine maintenance and inspections of fabrication equipmentFollow all company Health and Safety policies and proceduresWork collaboratively with other trades and departments when requiredImportant – What We Are Looking ForThe successful candidate must have strong hands-on fitting and fabrication skills. This position is not intended for someone whose experience is primarily limited to welding.Candidates should be comfortable taking a drawing or sketch and independently working through the fabrication process,
