Job Description
The Law Foundation of Saskatchewan is a non-profit dedicated to enhancing access to justice for Saskatchewan citizens. The Foundation awards grants to support legal education, legal research, legal aid, law libraries, and law reform. Since its beginning in 1973, the Foundation has distributed over $125 million for its legislated purposes.
There are currently two vacancies for the Foundation Board, effective January 1, 2027.
Both Law Society members and members of the public may apply for appointment to this Board. Legal training or experience is not required.
Term and Reappointment
Each appointment is for a three-year term, and appointees may serve two consecutive terms.
Key Competencies and Assessment Criteria
Ideal candidates are impartial and independent-minded individuals, who are able to exercise sound judgment in the best interests of the Foundation and the public it serves. In addition, the following skills or areas of expertise are desired:
- Access to Justice – Experience with, or knowledge of, Saskatchewan’s access-to-justice organizations, agencies, and issues.
- Grant Management and Evaluation – Experience with grant-making, program evaluation, impact measurement, or funding oversight.
- Governance and Strategy – Experience in organizational governance, leadership, management, or strategic planning.
- Legal and Justice Expertise – Knowledge of or experience in criminal law, family law, dispute resolution, or related areas.
- Financial and Investment Oversight – Experience in financial management, investment oversight, or financial governance.
The Foundation is particularly interested in applicants with financial expertise – accounting accreditation/designation and/or experience in financial management, reporting, and investment oversight.
Compensation and Advantages
An honorarium is paid, and expenses are reimbursed.
The Law Society serves the public interest and advances the administration of justice by regulating competence and integrity in the practice of law, safeguarding the independence of the legal profession,and promoting access to legal services and justice.
