Our 6,000 faculty and staff foster a vibrant, purpose-driven community, that celebrated 200 years of academic excellence in 2018.Job SummaryReporting to the Central Plant Manager, the incumbent will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following:Key ResponsibilitiesAssists Shift Operator in efficient operation of boilers and chillers for maximum performanceAssists Shift Operator in providing ongoing monitoring of Thermal Plant systems and equipment to ensure safety and efficiency (ie. boilers, chillers, diesel generator, electrical transformer, controls, etc.)Assists Shift Operator in performing maintenance on Thermal Plant systems and equipment to ensure continuous operationAssists Shift Operator in cleaning up assigned areas of the Thermal PlantAssists Shift Operator in performing maintenance tasks as requiredPerforms all duties in accordance with the current Nova Scotia Occupational Health & Safety Act,
as well as University and Government rules and regulationsPerforms water treatment control duties, as requiredCompletes log sheets on regular scheduled intervals, as directedCompletes daily log book entries on each shift as requiredCompletes daily, weekly and monthly inspection sheets, as directedEnergy management through Metasys, as required and directedMaintains a clean work environmentAct as Acting Shift Operator when requiredAct as Acting Rink Operator at Arena when requiredPerforms other duties as requiredNoteDue to operational requirements, the successful applicant is required to work in-person on campus.Required QualificationsValid 3rd Class Power Engineer’s certificate (standardized) recognized by the Nova Scotia Department of Labour, Skills and Immigration or equivalentMinimum of three years recent and related experienceKnowledge and understanding of computer control systems and the Digital Control System ( DCS ) (burner management system and boiler modulating system) of boiler controlsKnowledge and understanding of computer use and various programsGood communication and organizational skillsAbility to read and interpret drawings/blueprintsFamiliar with the current Nova Scotia Occupational Health & Safety Act, as well as University and Government rules and regulationsAbility to take direction and be versatile in working hoursMust be willing and able to work shifts, rotating shifts and overtime,
