Baine Johnston is currently seeking a Payroll & Benefits Administrator to join our team in St. John's. The Payroll & Benefits Administrator will independently manage payroll and benefits while ensuring accuracy, compliance and exceptional service to employees. This is a permanent, full-time opportunity.WHO WE AREBaine Johnston owns and manages companies operating in commercial real estate and furniture retail. We hire self-motivated, team-minded individuals with a strong work ethic, integrity, and a commitment to client service.THE POSITIONResponsible for the accurate and timely processing of bi-weekly payroll, comprised of a mix of hourly, salaried and commission-based pay, using ADP/WFN payroll software, for two local Newfoundland & Labrador companies.Administration of benefits and group RRSP plans, handling remittances, enrolments, plan changes and terminationsIdentifying potential improvements in payroll and control processes, ensuring that identified opportunities are implemented successfullyMonth end reconciliation of various accounts, including health & dental benefits, HAPSET, workers compensation, income tax, CPP, EI etc.Coordinate leave process (e.G. vacation, sick, short-term disability, bereavement, maternity/paternity, etc.)Respond to inquiries from managers and employees regarding payroll, benefits and expenses in a timely mannerComplete accurate year-end reconciliation and annual production of T4s and other tax documents as requiredMaintain payroll records for internal and external requirements, such as yearly audit for external auditorsEnsure the accurate and timely processing of recent hires,
terminations and wage increasesAssist with the creation of offer letters, onboarding, reporting and other documentation as requestedSKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONSThe successful candidate will likely possess:5 years of progressive payroll experienceIdeally holds a Certified Payroll Designation through the National Payroll Institute (NPI)A Diploma or Degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, or a related field considered an asset.Understanding of Employment legislation related to payrollAbility to maintain strict confidentialityAccuracy and attention to detail is criticalStrong initiative and self-motivation skillsExcellent organizational, prioritization and time management skills to deal with strict deadlinesProven ability to effectively multi-task in a fast-paced deadline driven environmentExcellent interpersonal and business communication skillsStrong aptitude for computer systems and softwareDemonstrated ability to work co-operatively in a tightly knit team and individuallyProficient with Microsoft Office (e.G.
