Why join our team? The Development Engineering Group in Longueuil is Pratt & Whitney Canada's largest new engine development center. The multidisciplinary organization is responsible for the development of new generations of helicopter and turboprop aircraft engines in addition to supporting the existing portfolio of already certified product lines.
The Development Build Team is responsible of engine assembly for development engineering. This includes the planning, preparation, execution and documentation stages. The group also ensures the validation of the assembly process in our on-line system (ECATES), the validation of the tools, the risk assessment (PFMEA), the integration of the requirements in terms of instrumentation and the general coordination with the assembly team and all support groups.
The Development Build Manager assumes the organizational and technical leadership of this team, which includes approximately fifteen specialists, technicians and engineers.
The position is based at our Longueuil location, from Monday to Friday, with flexible hours and exclusively in office.
What will your day-to-day look like? Ensure the group's compliance with company requirements in terms of ethics,
global trade, quality and health & safety.
Responsible for hiring, evaluating, and coaching team members.
Ensure sufficient critical skills and knowledge reside within the members of the group. Make sure to plan skills and knowledge sustainability.
Ensure the development of safe, rigorous and efficient assembly plans, delivered on time. Review utilization of best practices and applicable procedures.
Ensure the team delivers on the assembly and preparation of development engines in support to program requirements.
Jointly with the assembly and test plant management, coordinate the planning and execution of engine assembly tasks in support of program requirements.
Ensure the planning and execution of the production preparation process, including risk analysis (PFMEA) and the integration of new technologies in the assembly.
Insure effective coordination with multiple support functions across the company.
Review and approve engineering instructions and reports.
Ensure the resolution of escapes according to continuous improvement (CORE) best practices and support the implementation of work stoppage (ANDON) reduction initiatives.
Ensure the implementation of continuous improvement tools, clinics and initiatives in accordance with the company's objectives and quality improvement targets.
Develop and execute a strategic vision and roadmap for development assembly, ensuring that it is aligned with the one for the development organization.
Co-lead the maintenance of performance indicators and maintain management and planning files for the organization.
Foster an engaging work climate for the team and stimulate team members' professional growth.
What do you need to be successful? Bachelor's degree in engineering and a minimum of 15 years of experience OR Master's degree and a minimum of 12 years of experience. Combinations of alternative studies and relevant experience will be considered.
Relevant work experience in development engineering,
engineering or operations in the aerospace industry.
Demonstrated applied knowledge in the field of aircraft engine assembly and associated processes.
Experience in management, supervision and/or influential leadership roles.
Proven ability to lead a team and work with suppliers and internal clients.
Proven skills in continuous improvement.
The candidate must have strong communication skills (written and oral).
Knowledge of MS-Project, Excel and Enterprise Management Systems (SAP).
This position is part of a French-speaking work environment, it requires a very good knowledge of English to read and understand, on a daily basis, documentation and technical terms that may emanate from international organizations, as well as to write and communicate in English with customers, suppliers or international colleagues.
