Job Summary: The Senior IT Project Manager will lead the planning, coordination, development, documentation, and delivery of multiple projects focused on Artificial Intelligence, M365, and Cloud services within the Government of Alberta's Cloud Platform Services. Reporting to the Director, this role involves managing project teams, ensuring alignment with organizational goals, and providing governance to support continuous service improvement and innovation in cloud and AI initiatives.

Responsibilities:

Coordinate and oversee all aspects of IT projects from analysis through implementation.

Set deadlines, assign responsibilities, and monitor project progress.

Build and maintain relationships with team members, vendors, and other departments.

Prepare and present project status reports for upper management and stakeholders.

Develop project charters, business plans, and IT solutions compliant with enterprise architecture.

Provide recommendations on resource requirements, dependencies, and policy implications.

Manage multiple projects, resources, and governance structures.

Ensure effective communication and risk escalation with project sponsors.

Manage client relationships to ensure satisfaction and resolve issues.

Collaborate with leadership to define project plans including scope, timeline, risks, and budget.

Develop project organizational structures with clear roles and responsibilities.

Track and report project milestones, budget, resources, and risks.

Estimate resource needs and monitor work plans to ensure timely task completion.

Guide project teams on work priorities and deliverables.

Assess project outcomes and identify improvements for future initiatives.

Provide leadership in change management and communication support.

Work within or help define project management office standards.





Required Skills & Certifications:

Proven experience managing IT infrastructure projects including cloud, AI, and M365 solutions.

Robust knowledge of IT infrastructure, workstation/server hardware, software deployment, and line-of-business applications.

Sound understanding of IT Change Management, Communication Management, and User Acceptance Testing frameworks.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.

Familiarity with Government of Alberta IT policies, procedures, standards, and guidelines is an asset.

Must provide own computer equipment compatible with Azure Virtual Desktop (Windows preferred).

Completion of mandatory training including Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act and Security Awareness.

Criminal record check clearance prior to service commencement.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

Experience with enterprise architecture compliance and governance.

Background in managing AI-related government or public sector projects.

Prior experience in program governance and managing multiple project teams.

Special Considerations:

Work must be performed within Canada due to network and data security requirements.

Resource is primarily remote but must be available for onsite meetings/work sessions in Edmonton on reasonable notice.

All equipment including computers, software, and office supplies must be provided by the resource.

Travel to onsite meetings and related expenses are not reimbursed.

Role requires adherence to Government of Alberta's IT security and privacy policies.

Scheduling:

Standard working hours are 08:15 to 16:30 Alberta time, Monday through Friday, excluding provincial holidays.

Onsite meetings may occur up to 3-4 times per month and will be scheduled with advance notice.
