Position Summary:
Leads the development, implementation and maintenance of the Safety and Wellness Program for HMW. Works with farm management teams to promote and achieve associate wellness and injury prevention, acting as a principal conduit for safety communication between management and associates.

General Duties:

Safety and Wellness Program

Assists the Corporate Safety Manager and the Assistant Corporate Safety Manager in developing, implementing and maintaining Highline wellness and safety programs in order to maximize associate wellbeing by promoting wellness and minimizing the risk of physical injury in the workplace.

Addresses associate safety complaints and concerns and provides job coaching to associates when required

Promotes personal health and wellness philosophies and policies

Identifies required health and safety training

2. Safety Inspections and Incidents

Ensures proper accident and incident investigation and WCB/WorkSafe BC reporting requirements are met

Performs safety inspections at all farm locations (formal and informal) with and without the JHSC, specific to identifying physical hazards, ergonomic risks and improper body mechanics

Ensures safety and wellness bulletin boards are maintained accurately and in a timely manner

Investigates safety incidents at the farms and assists in the proper completion of incident investigation forms

Enters incident information in tracking software

Reports all noted safety infractions requiring corrective counselling to the area supervisor, Corporate Safety Manager, or Assistant Corporate Safety Manager and the Corporate Leader, HR

Has authorization to stop operations if a safety concern has been identified; this authority is to be exercised in consultation with the Corporate Safety Manager or the Assistant Corporate Safety Manager, and in communication with the Corporate Leader, HR

Provides first aid training for on the job illness or injuries

3. Disability Management/RTW Plans

Oversees and manages return to work and modified work assignments

Assists the Jr. Safety and Wellness Advocate with return to work plans for injured or ill associates requiring accommodation





Monitors on-going medical information and works with department managers/supervisors in the identification of suitable modified work as required

Responsible for communication with HR department, payroll, and department managers regarding return to work, restrictions, and providing regular updates and progress reports

Provides weekly reports to the Corporate Safety Manager regarding all modified associates at the farms

4. Injury Prevention

Ensures compliance with Highline wellness and prevention of injury policies and practices

Recommends, coordinates, implements and conducts educational and training programs relative to wellness and injury prevention for the purpose of empowering associates with the knowledge to achieve long-term goals

Responsible for maintaining all safety and wellness training records

5. Health and Safety Committee/OH&S; Meetings

Acts as a certified management representative for the farm Joint Health and Safety Committees

Participates in all visits with WorkSafe BC and the Alberta OH&S;, and remains present for the duration of meetings

In the event orders are issued, ensures compliance is on track and files compliance orders upon completion and after review with the Corporate Safety Manager and Assistant Corporate Safety Manager

6. Auditing and Administrative Duties

Performs individual random audits of the safety program

Participates in COR Auditing for all required farm locations

Assists with safety related functions having deadlines (i.e. Form 7 submissions, reporting, etc.) with other farm locations during periods of absences such as vacations, if required

Safety

Adhere to Safety Policies, including use of proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and other safety equipment

Report unsafe conditions immediately to Direct report or member of the Safety team

Report all incidents, injuries or near misses immediately to direct report or Safety Advocate

Cooperates in the Early & Safe Return to Work Program if an injury or medical illness requires accommodation

Other Duties

Provides back-up coverage for the Assistant Corporate Safety Manager





Provides meaningful recommendations for continual improvement or innovation

Performs any other duties that may be assigned

Qualifications:

Education & Past Experiences :

University Degree or College Diploma in Human Resources, Occupational Health and Safety, Kinesiology or similar program

Minimum of 3-5 years experience in Human Resources or Safety-related field

Preference will be given to candidates with or working towards becoming a Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP).

Must have knowledge of WCB Claims Management and Return to Work (RTW) Planning

Previous experience with COR Auditing would be considered an asset

Requires strong interpersonal skills, computer skills in word documents and spread sheet or database type program entry and information use

Knowledge of applicable Canadian Employment Legislation and Health and Safety regulations, standards and codes

Possesses and maintains current first aid certification

Hours of Work:

5 days / week

Public Holidays / Weekends as scheduled

Earnings:

$ 60,000 to $85,000
