The candidate will be responsible for developing comprehensive communications plans and strategies that support the delivery of ministry programs and services.

The candidate will be responsible for developing and executing highly sensitive ministry-wide and corporate priority communications assignments while meeting frequent and competing deadlines.

The candidate will be responsible for mentoring and supporting communications team members and providing guidance as required.

The candidate will be responsible for preparing, editing, and coordinating approvals for news releases, speeches, information bulletins, web content, key messages, Q&As;, fact sheets, op-eds, and issues notes for the Minister and senior ministry staff.

The candidate will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing special projects.

The candidate will be responsible for providing editorial guidance to ministry staff on external publications, documents, and presentations.

The candidate will be responsible for working with increasing independence and developing expertise in high-priority ministry files.

The candidate will be responsible for preparing and providing written materials and information to central GCPE teams to support corporate planning and communications products.

Event Planning & Coordination

The candidate will be responsible for coordinating with internal and external partners to provide communications support for high-profile and sensitive Minister media events and tours.

The candidate will be responsible for preparing and implementing event plans and agendas.

The candidate will be responsible for developing and preparing all written materials related to each event.

The candidate must determine appropriate target audiences and media outlets to increase the reach and impact of event announcements.

The candidate will be responsible for developing and carrying out media pitches and call-arounds as required.

The candidate will coordinate with central GCPE staff in events, digital, graphics, and media relations to support successful event delivery.

The candidate will be responsible for identifying, troubleshooting,



and resolving unexpected issues as they arise.

The candidate will be responsible for coordinating event facilities and all related logistical details.

The candidate will be responsible for staffing events when requested.

Media Relations

The candidate must understand media requirements and the news cycle to deliver high-quality, timely media relations services.

The candidate must work with reporters to understand their requests, coordinate with ministry staff to develop media responses, and provide the Minister and senior ministry staff with appropriate interview materials within media deadlines.

The candidate must develop and maintain relationships with reporters who cover or show interest in the ministry’s files.

The candidate must identify appropriate target audiences and media outlets to maximize the reach and impact of announcements.

The candidate must remain up to date on current events.

Issues Management & Emergency Management Support

The candidate will be responsible for leading issues management and identifying issues or potential issues.

The candidate must provide communications advice to support appropriate responses to issues.

The candidate must develop issues notes, key messages, Q&As;, and public/media statements to address issues.

The candidate will be responsible for leading communications projects and coordinating with ministry program staff.

The candidate will be responsible for participating as an operational staff member in the Joint Information Center (JIC), Provincial Emergency Coordination Center (PECC), and/or Provincial Regional Operations Centre (PREOC).

The candidate must participate in GCPE Coordinated Operation Response in Emergencies (CORE) regional deployments and provide crisis communications support to Emergency Management BC (EMCR).

Digital Communications

The candidate will be responsible for developing social media posts, strategies, and toolkits.

The candidate will be responsible for developing web content that is appropriate, accessible, and aligned with strategic objectives.

The candidate must work with the central GCPE digital communications team to develop impactful content that aligns with corporate communications.

The candidate must develop video scripts and support the coordination of video production for public release.

Management of Complex File Areas





The candidate will be responsible for developing and maintaining strong working relationships with program areas and partners.

The candidate will be responsible for providing strategic communications advice to non-communications staff regarding high-priority, complex ministry programs, projects, and activities.

The candidate will be responsible for following established processes to maintain effective file management and version control on written projects.

Job Requirements

The candidate must hold a Bachelor’s degree in a related field, such as journalism, public relations, communications, public policy, political science, or English.

The candidate must have a minimum of three years of related experience.

The candidate will be considered if they possess an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

The candidate must have experience in public relations, communications, and/or media relations within a large or complex organization.

The candidate must have experience developing and implementing communications and/or issues management plans.

The candidate must have experience building and maintaining productive relationships with media, partners, stakeholders, and clients, including at the executive level.

Preference will be given to candidates with experience writing a variety of materials concisely and persuasively, including news releases, speaking notes, issue notes, and key messaging.

Preference will be given to candidates with experience working in reactive communications, including crisis communications, partner communications, media relations, issues management, and social community management.

The candidate must be located in British Columbia at the time of employment.

Security and safety

The candidate will be required to undertake a Criminal Record Check (CRC).
