Founded in 1996, VaCC offers programs in healthcare, business, technology, education and trades.Medical Laboratory Assistant (MLA) InstructorLocation: Surrey Campus & Local Clinical SitesPosition Job Title: Medical Laboratory Assistant (MLA) InstructorReports To: Campus Director / Campus CoordinatorCompensation: $33.00 – $35.00 per hourHours: Maximum 25 hours per weekSchedule:In-person classes: 4:00 PM – 9:00 PMPracticum visits: 1:00 PM – 5:00 PMPurposeThe purpose of the Instructor is to contribute to the academic success of students and to the success of the Employer in achieving its statement of purpose.Specific ResponsibilitiesDealing with students, staff and other instructors in a professional,



courteous and helpful mannerDelivering instruction that meets module and program objectives as set out in the curriculumPreparing lesson plans and teaching aids that utilize a variety of teaching methods which will promote the attainment of desirable goals of studentsDiscussing students' progress with them individually and as a groupExplaining the course outline and expectations to studentsParticipating in the development and evaluation of curriculum and instructional materials, as requiredInforming the Campus Director or Campus Coordinator of any significant changes or problems that arise during a moduleAttending Instructors' meetings, as requiredPossessing a transparent understanding of, and upholding, the Employer's policies and procedures relating to students and instructorsCooperating with the administration staff in the performance of their dutiesCompleting required forms and records and submitting them to administration staff in a timely mannerMaintaining relevant industry skills and knowledgePerform the Instructor duties and at all times conduct themselves with the utmost attention to professionalism, integrity and respect for students, the program, colleagues, curriculum and the College as is fitting of a person in a position of trust with respect to the studentsParticipate in teaching evaluation and performance reviewsTake and submit attendance records for each student in the Course throughout the termsProvide and update online course materials to Campus Director, material must be kept current and consistent with the latest edition of the textbookComplete marking of the final examination and submit final marks within five working days after the last day of the courseAttend the Orientation Day,



if feasible, at the beginning of each academic yearArrange make-up sessions for teaching hours lost through illness and other unavoidable absencesThe Instructor may wish to add to, update and/or modify the course materials to better suit their teaching of the course. The Instructor is expected to preserve for the College's use, and provide to the Director additional, updated or modified material used within the class. Major revisions should be approved by the Director.To become familiar with and to comply with all of the policies and procedures, as reasonably adopted and amended from time to time by the College. The Instructor acknowledges and agrees that College may amend its policies, procedures, duties of the Instructor and the terms of this Agreement with written noticePosition Requirements CompetenciesRelevant industry skills and knowledge relating to the area of instructionAdvanced oral and written communication skills, including presentation and group facilitationAbility to motivate and inspire studentsDemonstrate and encourage high standards of behaviour, a professional attitude and commitment to quality serviceAbility to work cooperatively with other instructors and staffAbility to consider and respond appropriately to the needs, feelings and capabilities of students, to provide feedback and treat students equitablyTeach the prescribed curriculum and courses as approvedCommitment to remain current in area of study including ongoing professional development and continuous improvementEducation And ExperienceDegree, diploma or certification from a recognized university or collegeTwo or more years' experience in a related fieldRegistered Medical Laboratory Technologist DesignationInstructional experience is an assetSatisfy specific position/qualifications as prescribed in program design and program approval for the instruction of the coursesWe are proudly Canadian — rooted in our diverse communities, guided by our values, and committed to growing together from coast to coast.
