Maple Leaf Foods is located at Saskatoon, SK. The company is currently looking for applications for the role of 2nd Class Chief Power Engineer. We are seeking a self-disciplined individual with exceptional interpersonal skills. The chosen applicant will be required to join and begin their duties as soon as possible.

Salary: $75,000 and $105,000 per year

The candidate will be responsible for leading the Powerhouse team in developing and executing a positive and productive environment that permeates through all levels while supporting our leadership values and the needs of our people.

The candidate will be responsible for maintaining a safe and clean work environment by ensuring the plant and powerhouse operate in accordance with TSASK regulations and that all work complies with governing practices, codes, and regulations.

The candidate will be responsible for participating in the development, planning, execution, and review of preventative maintenance programs and standard operation procedures for areas under the powerhouse responsibility.

The candidate will be responsible for ensuring daily plant inspections of key equipment, including ammonia-refrigeration, steam boilers, compressors, and hot/cold/high-pressure water systems, to ensure all pressurized systems operate safely and as expected.

The candidate will be responsible for utilizing a state-of-the-art Building Automation System to monitor and control various systems throughout the facility, including HVAC.





The candidate will be responsible for ensuring the accurate recording of data and all relevant information related to the operation of the plant under the Chief Engineer’s jurisdiction.

The candidate will be responsible for providing leadership to direct reports by setting explicit expectations, promoting employee engagement, providing regular feedback, and supporting coaching and development.

The candidate will be responsible for assessing the performance of operating engineers and taking appropriate action when needed in accordance with Company policies and TSSA regulations.

The candidate will be responsible for contributing to our sustainability culture by seeking to eliminate waste and taking actions to improve the efficiency of systems that consume natural gas, electricity, and water.

The candidate will be responsible for taking on additional responsibilities as the position requires, including performing the duties of the operating engineer when needed.

The candidate will be responsible for recognizing, supporting, and committing to the facility food safety and quality assurance promise.

The candidate will be responsible for contributing as a key member of the Management Team in strategic decisions, including continuous improvement and Six Sigma initiatives.

Job Requirements





The candidate must hold a valid and current 2nd Class Stationary Engineer with a Refrigeration “A” Operator certificate.

The candidate must have a minimum of 5 years of experience as a Chief Stationary Engineer.

The candidate must have strong communication and motivational leadership skills, with the ability to develop a positive safety culture within the team.

The candidate must demonstrate a high sense of urgency and a bias for action.

The candidate must have experience developing and executing Preventative Maintenance Plans.

The candidate must have excellent planning, analytical, and organizational skills.

The candidate must have experience with CMMS and Process Software such as SAP and Factory Talk.

The candidate must be an innovative and creative thinker who can resolve problems, offer multiple solutions to challenges, and recognize potential opportunities.

The candidate must have experience with Process Improvement Methodologies, including Six Sigma, RCA, and RCM.

The candidate should have experience in a Food Processing or Manufacturing environment, which is considered an asset.
